Britain just voted for Brexit. I have spent a lot of time studying this, and while I have always been pro EU have tried hard to understand valid reasons why membership might be bad for britain. There arent any.
Brexit won for reasons which have nothing to do with logic. There was a vote for a return to the good old days, think Trump. There was a vote to 'get our country back', think trump. There was a vote against immigrants despite their having a massive role in the economy, think Trump. There was a vote for how much better off the UK would be if not held back by all these foreign trade rules, think Trump. If experts disagree and explain why it will not work, call them liars or ignorant, think trump. There was a massive vote against the political establishment simply on the basis that if the mainstream politicians wanted the opposite then go for it, think Trump. A sociologist observed, if you mean to lie then lie so big that people belive something so huge could not possibly be a lie, think trump.
David cameron believed he would win the referendum and britain would remain in the EU. Trump will win by totally not agreeing with established orthodoxy. More people voted for Brexit and more voted against brexit than voted for either of the two main UK political parties. The issue cut across normal party lines, as will trump.
