A very smart friend! I would buy my son or daughter also birth control so I know they are doing it safe!

So no money is no sex, what the fuck for idea is that.
Great parenting that stepdad is doing, especially because it isn't his son!

I don't get why you are also so fed up with some people their answers. Suddenly you tell us about rape, but that was not what we read in ur OP, so don't get mad because people base their answer on your OP.

You have the most astonishingly well-behaved children I've encountered in a long time. They're intelligent, thoughtful, kind, and well humored. I really like them.

Clearly, they take after your ex.

Thanks, J.

Parents and people forget that your children owe you nothing. You raise them and then off they go on their own.

All I have done (with my ex and now, also, with Bubba), is set cleaqr expectations for behavior, lead by example with my/our morals, and explain the complicated situations they encounter in age-appropriate language that they can understand.

We have and do talk about everything from being a good friend, to the dangers of drugs (using family members and celebs who have lost everything as examples), to the fact that no one is allowed to touch them in a way that is uncomfortable to them--not even mommy and daddy--as their bodies belongs to them.

I could write a paragraph on this also, but... Just a couple of quick lines:

Don't buy kids condoms. Let them fuck, fuck up, and figure life out on their own when they're paying for STI treatments or worse yet, a child.

You know Pieter I think that everyone just comes to LPSG with differing viewpoints and experiences because of their age.
I also think that it is a good idea that the stepfather is buying condoms so that they are having safe sex. However I think that if you are old enough to screw you are old enough to at least have a part-time job and buy your own protection.
I'm sorry if I'm living in the middle age vacuum but I find it completely unbelievable that someone 16 years old can not find a part-time job doing something (I know times are tough but there are minimum wage jobs out there especially part-time) I started working when I was 15 because my mother and stepfather wanted me to take some responsibility and the experience it gave me was priceless. When I attended University I did not have to work, my parents gave me a free ride (What I called the four year paid vacation) However I choose to work part-time, again the experience was more important than I realized at the time because the opportunities it gave me when I graduated because I had a resume with some history and that told potential employers that I had some experience other than in the classroom.
I am proud of the fact that from that point in my life I traveled on my own gas. I moved to NY attended and graduated from an Ivy League Law School.
In the recent past when I was in the position to be part of the interview process with kids fresh out of Law School; those with some diversified experience other than their internships were far and away the best candidates. Subsequently we never hired anyone with no background other than school.
So while it may seem cruel that some parents want to make their children grow up... eventually they have to grow up and take charge of themselves.
My mother and stepfather did not use the same child rearing techniques with my stepbrother and he is constantly still asking to be bailed out of life's little problems. To me there is nothing more pathetic than a fifty year old calling home to daddy to fix things.

It depends very much on what you studied. For example, with what I'm studying, I'll get requests before I even graduate. There is such a shortage that it doesn't matter whether you have other experience next to school or not. Also, working in eg. a clothing shop has absolutely nothing to do with my future job, so you could hardly call that experience. When it'd be something in the lines of what my future will look like, I might reconsider. But I'm not going to do anything that seems an utter waste of time for that amount of money.

Well good luck with all that I'm happy for you. But I would love to talk to you in 20 years when you are grown up and have some life and work experience.

I beg to differ. Everything gives you some sort of experience. We all need experience in life not just professionally. If you work as a waiter or in shop you will take something away from it that will be useful to you at some time in the future. It may not seem relevant to what you have planned for yourself at the time but time will prove otherwise.

Or not... I'd love to see evidence that proves that. No two lifes are the same, so it could be very true that it might have come in handy in your life. But that doesn't mean it comes in handy in someone elses life. It's not because you haven't worked in a shop, that you have no social skills etc. It differs from person to person.

And NY... don't talk to me like I'm a little kid. Yes, you're older, but that doesn't mean that I know nothing about life. You may disagree, but you can at least try and be a bit respectful.

IMHO the more differing life experiences we each acquire the richer our lives become. We probably will not agree and that is fine. We are expressing our own opinions from entirely different angles. For what it's worth 20 odd years ago I would have totally disagreed with myself now and told myself to fuck off. But that's a different discussion and maybe worthy of a new thread.

Sorry Kid, someday you are going to learn that respect is earned and not just handed out. You get respect from working and having life experience. What possible respect do you honestly expect from me as you are 19 year old virgin living at home with no work or life experience? But your vapid self centered posts have amused me from time to time. Really I was just like you when I was so upset that I had my mothers hand me down Mercedes to drive to school when all the cool kids were getting new Ford Mustangs.
I'll respect you when you can show me there is some reason to respect you! If you review your post history here; there is nothing there. (Don't you just cringe sometimes if you read what you have written?)

Nudeyorker, I can't help but think you're slamming Gl3nn a little harder than you should. Some of his posts are vapid ... but then, are we not here to have fun?
And some are quite substantial ... in the Politics forum, for example.
And surely we can cut a 19 y.o. a bit of slack.
He has not been surly in this thread at all.

I think this could apply to raising a boy or a girl.
Don't give them everything they want when they want it.
Don't fight their battles for them.
When they become of age, (16) make them get a job.
While they are living at home, make them contribute to the household duties.
Teach them right from wrong by example.
If they are living at home past the age of 18 make them pay rent and household expenses.
Teach them how to think for themselves that every action has a consequence and all situations have resolutions.
It worked on our family.

My point is that this, below, is too heavy when used on a 19 y.o. who was not saying anything outrageous.

oh look another stir-the-pot and walk away, hypocritical, double standard topic. Same old same old.

And what idiot has his parents buy condoms for him? If you are old enough to fuck, damn well get your big boy britches on and buy your own rubbers. What is this world coming to?

There is a forum called *Funny Stuff* I'm sure his insights on the world and his experiences would be appreciated there. I'm sorry... do a post search...My personal favorite was how he liked Rosie but liked Donald Trumps money! If you are above the age of 18 you can be a member of this site and allowing his age and inexperience as an excuse is no excuse. (If you want to play with the big boys etc...etc...etc!)

Well, in this thread, he's been reasonable and more polite than some have been.
Is he often, as a joke, making a display of shallowness and narcissism?
Certainly.
Do you have to like it?
Of course not.
But this thread was not the one to jump on.
Anyway, let's drop it.
I like you both.

I agree with nude that it is a bit naive to think that not working is somehow better or moot than working, even if it is retail, for future prospects. Selling things may not directly relate to your future field, but at the very least you'll have a previous employer who can vouch for you that you are a good worker, you get along with people, etc. I've never interviewed anyone, but when it gets to the nitty gritty of choosing applicants, something like that can make or break it I'd imagine, especially after what nude said with his interviewing experience.

Dropped! I'm going to the airport see you all in 15 hours! BTW I don't think I was being unreasonable either. The OP posted. I posted something, he posted his vapid shallow response, I replied, you intervened; It's a done deal. Wish I had you on my side when I was a child.
