As Britain mourned the victims of the Manchester bombing, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Tuesday night that the country had raised its terrorism threat level night to critical, meaning that another attack may be imminent.
After a meeting of her top security officials to consider intelligence after the attack in Manchester on Monday night that killed 22 people and wounded dozens more at a pop concert, Mrs. May said that “it is a possibility we cannot ignore that there is a wider group of individuals linked to this attack.”

Brazil: Troops deployed in capital as tens of thousands protest

Brazil's president Michel Temer has deployed federal troops to restore order in the country's capital, Brasilia, after some ministries were evacuated during clashes between police and protesters seeking his ouster.

Temer is struggling to retain power after the release of a recording that appears to capture him approving hush money for a convicted former lawmaker. Brazil's top court is investigating him for alleged obstruction of justice and involvement in passive corruption.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched to Congress on Wednesday to demand Temer step down and protest against economic reforms that he is pushing through.

Lucia Newman reports from Brasilia.

Venezuela's Attorney General Luisa Ortega has accused security forces of using excessive force to quell anti-government protests. She says at least 55 people have died since demonstrations over the country's food and economic crises intensified in April.

British police angry after US media publishes photos of Manchester bomb fragments
This is the trigger the Manchester bomber used to blow himself up and kill 22 concert-goers. British anti-terror investigators are furious this photo and others from the scene were leaked to US media, warning breaches of trust between international partners undermine their investigation.

BREAKING NEWS
President Trump ordered an investigation after Britain accused U.S. officials of leaking details from the Manchester terror inquiry
Thursday, May 25, 2017 11:11 AM EDT
President Trump condemned “leaks of sensitive information,” responding to a complaint by Britain’s prime minister, Theresa May, over disclosures of forensic details from the investigation into Britain’s deadliest terrorist attack since 2005.
Mrs. May’s statement followed expressions of outrage by top law enforcement officials after The New York Times published images of the shrapnel, backpack and battery used by Salman Abedi, the 22-year-old bomber who killed 22 people and injured 64 outside the Manchester Arena as a pop concert ended Monday night. The Times did not disclose the source of its information.

After being charged with assaulting a reporter, the Montana Republican Greg Gianforte won a special election for a U.S. House seat
Friday, May 26, 2017 12:44 AM EDT
Greg Gianforte, a wealthy Montana Republican who was charged with assaulting a reporter on Wednesday, nonetheless won the state’s lone seat in the House of Representatives on Thursday, according to The Associated Press, in a special election held up as a test of the country’s political climate.
Mr. Gianforte, 56, was widely seen as a favorite to win against Rob Quist, a Democrat and country music singer. But he seemed to imperil his own candidacy in the final hours of the race after he accosted a journalist for The Guardian.
Voters here, though, shrugged off the episode and handed Republicans a convincing victory. Mr. Gianforte’s success underlined the limitations of the Democrats’ strategy of highlighting the House health insurance overhaul and relying on liberal anger toward President Trump, at least in red-leaning states.

Reading Donald Trump's body language at the G7 Summit

Everyone seems to be talking about the body language between the US president, and other world leaders -- at the NATO summit, as well as the G7.

Many of them are meeting Donald Trump for the first time. One clip, in particular, where President Trump appears to have pushed the Prime Minister of Montenegro aside on Thursday -- so he can be photographed
standing in the front, ignited a social media storm.

Some are saying it was a just a friendly gesture that we’ve all experienced. Nothing to see here.

Plenty of people are also talking about French President Emmanuel Macron, who swerved out of the way to greet the leaders of Germany, NATO, Belgium and then President Trump, where he received that signature handshake.

And handshakes aside, one of the big takeaways from the NATO summit, also dominating much of the G7 talks, is about terrorism and migration.

G7 summit ends deadlocked on climate change

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called the debate at a G7 summit in Italy "very unsatisfactory", saying that US President Donald Trump's G7 partners remained in the dark about his intentions on climate change.

Her comments came on the final day of the Sicily event, where international leaders were trying to persuade Trump to stay in a landmark climate change deal.

Trump has tweeted that he will make his final decision on the issue next week.
Laurence Lee reports from the summit in the town of Taormina.

"Emoji flags are one medium through which Twitter users signal a sense of inclusion, whether by supporting a national sports team, displaying some garden-variety patriotism, or engaging in presidential jingoism."

"For ethnic groups marginalized by long histories of colonization, the lack of a digital flag icon is one more symbol of invisibility—something Twitter recognized Thursday when it unveiled an emoji that features both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Australia’s National Sorry Day, which annually memorializes the mistreatment and oppression of the country’s indigenous population."

"The emoji’s release also coincides with a trip by hundreds of Aboriginal leaders to Uluru, formerly called Ayer’s Rock, to demand that the Australian government constitutionally recognize them. A 1967 referendum—the anniversary the bluntly named National Sorry Day commemorates—removed all references to Aboriginal peoples, who are legally defined as a biological race, from the national constitution."

Europe can no longer completely rely on its allies: Merkel

Published on May 28, 2017

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said Europe can no longer rely on its allies and must take its fate into its own hands.
She made the remarks on Sunday at an election rally in Munich after returning from the recent G7 summit in Italy.
Ro Aram reports.
Speaking on Sunday after what she called ‘unsatisfactory’ G7 talks, Merkel said the EU can no longer rely on its traditional British and American allies.
However, she did mention that Europe had to forge its own path forward in tandem with friendly relations with the U.K., the U.S. and even Russia. "The times in which we can fully count on others are somewhat over, as I have experienced in the past few days. And that is why I can only say: We Europeans must really take our destiny into our own hands, of course in friendship with the United States, in friendship with Great Britain, with good neighborly relations wherever possible, also with Russia and other countries."

There were renewed concerns at the G7 summit in Italy as President Trump, who was attending the gathering for first time, was the only leader to say he needed more time to think about committing to the 2015 Paris agreement on climate change.
He was also coming fresh off a NATO summit in Brussels, where he lambasted allies for not paying enough for defense.
Soon after the G7 talks, Merkel described the results as “six against one," but didn't mention Trump by name. "Thirdly, and this was very difficult if not to say very unsatisfactory, there was the whole discussion about the issue of climate . Here we have situation of six - or seven, if you count in the EU - against one.

Back in Munich, meanwhile, Merkel instead turned her hopes to pro-EU French President Emmanuel Macron.
She said Germany would help wherever it could because Germany will only do well if Europe does well.

Can the EU go it alone? – Inside Story

Angela Merkel is Germany's Chancellor, but is also seen by some as Europe's leader.

So, when she says the European Union can't rely on the US and UK that creates waves.

Merkel's concerned that the long-standing allies are drifting in a new direction, with Donald Trump in the US and post-Brexit Britain.

Merkel's warning comes a few days after European leaders didn't see eye to eye with Trump at the G7 and NATO summits.

They failed to agree on various issues, including climate change and the two year old refugee crisis.

Merkel says Europe can't always trust the US and UK going forward.

What does that mean for the transatlantic alliance?
