Some supermarkets in UK develop new scheme for ethically-produced goods

The Fairtrade logo has been the gold standard for ethically produced goods for 25 years, benefiting more than 1.6 million workers in 74 countries.

Poor producers are empowered, supermarkets make millions and customers feel good about their purchases.

But now some big supermarkets and retailers in the UK are replacing it with their own schemes.

Why It Matters Who Females Choose to Have Sex With

Why Giraffes Snack on Bones
Sometimes, giraffes eat bones. That was the shocking—and fascinating—takeaway for me when I first watched this video. They're typically plant-eaters, but this osteophagic behavior gives giraffes access to nutrients that supplement what they get from their regular diets. You can read more here.
(As a side note: You can't tell this from the video, but a colleague here at National Geographic, who once witnessed the behavior, said it was very loud. That detail will certainly stick with me.)

Why you should eat a plant-based diet, but that doesn't mean being a vegetarian

Eating a plant-based diet is healthy, and you don't need to give up meat
A survey of Australians found 70 per cent thought a plant-based diet would prevent disease. But what does the literature say? And is meat really bad that for you?

Should I stop eating red meat? Experts weigh in on UN report

wagyu-steak-custom-data.jpg

The UN's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has warned that processed meats like sausages and ham cause bowel cancer, and red meat "probably" does too.

Does this mean we should stop eating meat?

A lion has been photographed nursing a leopard cub in the first-ever known case of cross-species suckling among wild cats. The two species are normally mortal enemies.

It is unclear what motivated the lioness to nuture the stranded leopard cub.

The fate of the leopard cub is unknown.
