Just say no to using apostrophes to make plurals. GOD!

NCbear (who just read an entire post that represented all the plurals as plural's--it was confusing as hell and made me doubt my eyesight and ability to read)

I actually had to talk to one of our administrative assistants this week about this. She sends emails to the whole building and puts 's to make her plurals.

And I'm seeing "its" (possessive) spelled "it's" (contraction) so much that I catch myself doing it. I just now had to correct a post I was about to make.

My problem is that I am so visual that I tend to imprint on whatever I read. My spelling comes from photographic memory--basically, what I've seen. If I read a lot of text that is riddled with mistakes, I have to use higher-quality text to re-imprint my knowledge of my own language.

Now you know one of the two major reasons I stopped being an English professor.

NCbear (who wonders whether you can guess what the other major reason was--do you think it could have been the salary??)

I proofread in my spare time, if I allowed myself to become stressed over bad grammar, I'd have had a meltdown by now!

I gave up fretting over other people's poor grammatical skills a long time ago.

I completely understand. The use, or rather, improper use of your for you're always jumps out at me. There and their too (as opposed to...to)

And don't forget to mention alot (a lot), allright (all right) and the misuse of could of (have), would of (have).

AAAAGHHHHH!

I don't see how that can be all that confusing, just read over it. Total none issue, the way people are destroying the English language why's poor punctuation an issue. HAHA!

I don't see the problem either. People using 's are usually people that don't have English as their native language. They do their best when writing in English, so give them a break.
