Rate this decade

Now that New Year's is right around the corner, how would you rate this past decade? Personally, it was a good decade, but globally I thought it went from good to plain old bad. We started out with coming to a close with one of the strongest economic surges in the late 90's to a terrorist attack in 2001 leading to more global terrorist attacks, two wars, countless natural disaster (Katrina, and the 2004 tsunami, just to mention a few), the fear of global warming (that's if you believe in it), a global economic collapse, a rampant division between political parties in America and there doesn't really seem to be no end in sight. With that said, what are your predictions for the next decade? Will things get better or worse.

For me personally... 2000 through March 2003 were pretty good.

From March 2003 until now SUCKED!!! First I had two different major health problems within 3 months of each other, both requiring surgery and one I almost died from, then after a long recovery from that I was laid off from my one steady job and haven't had a steady job since. And last year my mom passed away suddenly at the age of 66.

Globally, the decade was really, really bad!

I hope the '10s are much, much better, both personally AND globally! I won't make predictions though because I have no idea really.

2000 - 2002 Nothing Special

2002 - 2004 Got a know a bunch of good friends thru College life :biggrin1:

2004 to 2006 was a pretty awesome 2 years for me, got to experienced Police life as it is

2006 till now, nothing special so far except i got wiser not to trust anyone explicitly

And yes this decade for the world is pretty lousy
Unpopular Wars, Terrorism, Natural Disaster, Economy tanked big time

As he notes "a decade to learn much" but must it ALL have been shoved into a ten year time period? Uffa!

I enjoyed this decade, but then I enjoy my life generally.

I suppose the News hasn't all been sweetness and light but I don't remember a year when it was so that's a wash.

But things have gone well for me, except turning 30 that is :redface:

What have been good decades? Looking at the last century the 1910s, 1920s, 1930s and 1940s were dominated by two world wars and the Great Depression. The 1950s were post-war austerity, the 1970s cold war at its worst. The 1980s polarised views (lots of prosperity and lots of poverty). I suppose the 1900s had their moments, the 1960s seem to be regarded as very special, and the 1990s with the fall of communism might be a decade with real promise.

I've found the 2000s have given me opportunities and set-backs (surely the same for most) and I suppose I see the world situation in similar terms. I'm looking at the 2010s with hope, both personally and globally. A bit of global prosperity would help us all.

Ok in general - although I enjoyed the 90s more.

Personally:
2000-2002, 05/06, 09 = ok.

03/04, 07/08 = nightmarish.

True. Politically. Economically. Emotionally. And in almost every other regard. Total shet. It's a good thing I have a sense of humour...

the past decade has been half and half for me. on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, i'd rate this past decade a 5.

2000-2003 was so-so but on the better side.
2004-2005 was absolutely wonderful.
2006-2007 was completey crappy.
2008-2009 was on the so-so but also kind of crappy side.

For me, personally, it was pretty damn good...some setbacks, but whatever, the moving average was positive. For humanity as a whole...i think it sucked. I liked Leonard Pitts' piece on the 'Uh-oh' decade last week...sums it up well.

That was a good article. I have to say that I agreed with a lot of it. I think the uh-oh's is a catchy and accurate name for this decade.
