I dont shave my balls very often, maybe once a week or two. When i do, i shave the shaft and the sides of the package, to clean it all up nice. I always end up with red bumps that itch and look like hell. ive tried cocoa butter, and various lotions my gf has lying around, but none of them seem to help. anyone have any ideas on shaving teqniques or topical solutions that will help?

thanks,
Ken

I did search for razor burn and only found 18 threads, and a few discussed it, but they all turn into, why shave just trim, or just wax, or use nair, or shave downward. Im looking for someone to say, "use brand X afterwards and it will be fine"

I wouldn't use any type of lotion with perfume in it for sure, that could definitely simply add to the problem. Try e.g. aloe vera gel - the less additives the better usually...

I know this may sound weird, but do you shave with shaving cream? I know pubic hair isn't the same as other body hair, but if I shave my legs without shaving cream, I get razor burn to. And you can buy shaving cream (even if you have to buy womens) that is for dry skin so it has a lot of moisturizers in it. Maybe a little odd, but if it works, who cares?

I shave 2-3 times a week, and I use "king of shaves" shaving oil under shaving gel, I know it sounds corny, but it makes a huge difference.

I shave at night, when I can let my crotch have air when going to bed, and I use a mild after-shave immediately following the shave.

My balls and imediate surroundings are usually smoother than my face...

LOL, that seems really often.

I didn't want to say so intitially since there were mentions of another thread on this topic, but I also thought it really often - and especially given the rash that ensues. The skin in the pubic area is really sensitive - actually, I never shave my balls more than maximum once a month. - Under any circumstance (except if you're a porn actor etc) there is certainly no reason to overdo it.

I only trim and never shave down there. I have recently taken to a straight razor for my face and found it reduces irritation. However, I am not completely certain that I would feel comfortable wielding a straight razor in that region (unless castration appeals to you.):biggrin1:

I shave all the time with a straight razor on my balls and shaft.

NEVER a problem.

I don't know why guys are always like, "I don't want to castrate myself with a razor."

Dude, it's your balls and your cock. It's not like you're hacking away down there. You know to be careful. :banghead2:

Unless you have Parkinson's.

Then I wouldn't recommend.

Wow, after finally signing up with a username after two years of reading LPSG, THIS is my first post. Perhaps I should feel ashamed.

Naw. :nana: I'm sure there are people here who know what I mean.

A couple of tips:

1) Get offany long hair with barbers clippers (use the 'number 1' grade guard on them.
2) Use a new blade on your razor
3) Use a good quality razor (Gillette Mach 3 always does it for me).
4) Shave with the direction of hair growth, try not to go against the grain.
5) Use a good shavingcream for sensitive skin.
6) rinse well after and apply a blob of vaseline (good for ay sensitive skin.

Hope it helps...

I mentioned this in another thread. Switch to a Gillette "Fusion" razor. It has a battery powerd vibrator in the handle. It sort of slices hair instead of chopping it. The blades come in a three or five blade units with a single blade on the back side for sideburns or a neat pube line. "Smoothe" is the word to describe its' action.

I probably should have explained better. I shave with an open blade straight razor; not a safety razor. These are the razors that went out of fashion around the second world war and are now, it would seem, only used in movies to elicit a response of fear.

Anybody who shaves “down there” with one of them has more balls than I; of course one slip and that will change.

yeah, I'll shave my face with a straight razor, but I don't think I'd try shaving my balls with one!

I trim my pubes short, so I don't shave much. But I do shave the base of my shaft a little because I think it looks weird to leave it, and I have completely shaved my balls once. I've found that using stick deodorant after shaving prevents any red bumps. I used to get plenty before a friend recommended using deodorant.

I shave with a Mach 3 and sensitive skin Edge gel. I go with the grain once, and follow it up against the grain (slowly and in short, small strokes-rinsing each stroke).

Immediately, pat dry the area and slowly and smoothly rub an ice cube over any area that was shaved. Yes, it's cold-but it beats razor burn. This soothes the skin, and actually works better than a perfumed lotion or aftershave.

Check out my gallery if you don't believe it.

I shave my private region once or twice a week. I've a special trimmer. It can be used wet or dry. And it's waterprove so u can use it in the shower. Before I had this machine I used a gillete shavingtool but I cut myselve that much that I've bought this machine.

And I'm very happy with it.
