My years-old razor handle dropped and broke, prompting me to wonder what most of you guys shave with. I'm asking just about traditional facial shaving in this case, not other body grooming.

I usually buy 3-blade disposables because they're less expensive than 4-bladed, but the 4s tend to do a better job. A while ago I tried the old fashioned 2-bladed and it was awful. I don't know how we didn't all bleed to death when those were "the best a man could get."

A single-blade razor. (Merkur handle with double-edge Feather blades)
I like the ease of use and the close shave and the fact that it doesn't get clogged with hair / shaving cream / soap as is the case with multi-bladed razors. If you have never used a single blade before, then you will definitely feel the difference. I use an electric foil for quick shaves.

Glad you posted this. I can't stand the waste of cartridges (and don't get me going about disposables) so maybe I'll make the switch. I've always shaved in the shower--do you know if the Merkur holds up well over time in a wet environment?

You will find the Merkur brand razors in either Satin, Matte, Polished, Plated, Chrome or Stainless Steel finishes. All are meant to be used in a wet environment; but for longevity, I would go with the Stainless Steel.

Regardless of the brand of razor that you choose, the most importing thing is that the razor fits your hand, in terms of size and weight. If you have large hands, then a short handled, weighted razor is likely going to result in you cutting your upper lip off as you try to get at the area under your nose. Conversely, if you have small hands, then a long handled razor is going to be cumbersome.

The blades are very cheap in comparison to disposable cartridges. Some of the online sites sell sample packs of various blades so that you can get a feel of which one works best for you. Just make sure that the blades are compatible with your chosen razor.

My facial hair doesn't grow very fast but I shave with a Philips razor the one with the three circle heads. I wouldn't say it's prefered its just what I use. I don't/havent shaved often enough to say what I prefer.

Lucky you. Wish I didn't have to shave, but it's all part of being Male. Just glad I don't have to shave every day. I shave two maybe three times a week.

That many wow. Is that to keep it clean shaven? I usually shave once or twice a month.

Naw that's not to stay clean shaven I'd have to do that every morning. Usually I shave Sunday morning, Wednesday morning, and if I go out on Friday nights I'll shave before I go out.

I always shave while in the shower. How old are you? The only time I didn't shave twice a week was when I had a beard. I wore a beard and or a foo manchu moustache for probably a year or more.

Damn that's alot. I'm really glad my facial hair doesn't grow that quickly. I'm late 20s now. And I didn't really start growing any facial hair until after I turned 20 so haven't even really been shaving for that long.

You lucky dog you. I don't like to shave it's just a necessity of being a man. I've got two patches on my chin under my lower lip that is bare . I've never grown hair there.

I got lucky. One of the reasons my razor has lasted so long because I don't use it as much as others would. Still hate that I have facial hair at all though glad I don't really grow it on the rest of my body aside from my legs
