RBG should have been able to spend the last four years enjoying a well earned rest and fondly tripping over memories of a life lived epically. Instead she stayed the course, defending the right of womangs, LGBTQ, Persons of Color, the poor, the disabled... Basically everyone not MAGA Endorsed.

What's to come? Doubt highly McConnell is gonna champion withholding nominations until after the election. And as of last headline Trumpty had Ted Cruz on his SCOTUS short list.

Honestly? As a queer womang of many an alt identifier.. how I live my life could literally be over within the next year. Every right I have could be undone. The rights of so many people I care for could vanish.

If anyone is on the fence about voting, if voting for Biden doesn't rouse any joy.. it doesn't matter... Please fucking vote. Please vote for Biden. No write in. No protests. No down ballot only voting. Every Biden vote is needed.

The absolute nightmare scenario. R.I.P. a champion of so many good things and a fighter till the end.
The first thing that came to my mind was the threat we heard from the GOP after the last few scotus rulings where they branded their previous picks traitors.

They will try to correct that with this hypocritical appointment. Someone that will not fight them on gay rights and women's rights.

She fought hard for minority groups and the gay community. She truly believed in goodness. She had real wisdom.

She was a lovely lady. I am saddened by her death.

I know my fear may be irrational, but I think the Supreme Court could become a Court of the Religious Right. But I've been told that the Supreme Court can never go strongly against the will of the American power - it just can't be done without tragic consequences. And the Justices know this well when interpreting the law. They can make inroads in giving more power to conservative ideas in rulings, but to what extent can they do this to an extreme? Possible on paper, but not in reality. There is no doubt about that. But they must always stay in the confines of the general will of the American public. Otherwise, there will be mayhem on the streets. But, conservative-majority court is still dangerous to some degree, and far from being in the best interest of the American people.

Amy Barrett, a staunch conservative Catholic, is likely to take her place.

If Ted Cruz gets on SCOTUS, I'm leaving America.o_O

In 2016 I made comments about leaving Burgerland.

2020? All the boarders are closed. There is no where to run.

On the courts/SCOTUS respecting the will of the people.... Most Burgerlandians want to keep abortion legal, but every year the right of access to legal and safe abortions is pared away by court rulings.

As of now 6 states have only one abortion provider. While not in law, Alabama has effectively outlawed abortion. Other states have restricted access, require unnecessary tests and heaps other obstacles in place.

Something as simple as mask mandates, another issue supported by most Burgerlandians, are being shut down by a very loud and willfully ignorant minority. The same loud and ignorant minority that support denying women access to healthcare and every other minority its right to even exist.

ETA: the current Yam of Office doesn't seem swayed by disgruntled Burgerlandians taking to the street.

Unless those Burgerlandians are waving Trump and/or confederate flags. Then the government pays attention.

Justice Ginsburg's Death Sets Up Political Battle In The Senate

Article Excerpts:
At the center of this battle will be Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. In 2016 he took the unprecedented step of refusing for nearly a year to allow any consideration of President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Merrick Garland.

Ginsburg's death gives Republicans the chance to tighten their grip on the US Supreme Court with another Trump appointment that would give conservatives a 6-to-3 majority. That would leave conservatives with enough votes to prevail in the Affordable Care Act case, scheduled to be heard 1 week after the upcoming presidential election, and many others.

You know that smirking, bloated garbage bag of spray tan and fast food lard is tickled as pink as his orange ass can get. The promise of a sixth conservative judge will lure back doubting evangelicals.

Is there really a human more deserving of spontaneous human combustion?

While I don't usually like to speak in such terms, after tonight I'll say it: McConnell comes close.

All I can say at the moment: FUCK 2020.

Rest In Power, Ruth.

❤️❤️❤️

I don't even wanna think about what kind of horribleness this means for the future of this country.

Earlier this year, I lost an important woman in my life: a fiercely intelligent, free-spirited, multiple-time cancer survivor in her late eighties.

First my mother, now RBG. "Fuck 2020" is right.

Exactly.

Trump, McConnell and the other crony hypocritical b--------------ds are surely dancing in the streets. And snakes like them are ALWAYS certain to do as they please. So what's to come is that they'll ram through another conservative "justice" prior to the election.

ALL of which should make us angrier and IMPEL us to the polls, EVER MORE resolute to remove Trump and his GOP henchmen from the Oval Office and control of the Senate... and to have our voices HEARD, should they LOSE, then refuse to accept the results and/or seek to delay, invalidate, or challenge it.

Because if Democracy is to die, rather it should pass like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, fighting to the end, than with a whimper.
