How about Greta? Stays the the G names and sounds kind of mysterious. She definitely had a mystery going on until you found the shell.

You could call her Penelope the pelodiscus.

Wikipedia had this to say about origins:

"The Chinese soft-shelled turtle is found in China, Taiwan, Korea, Manchuria, North Vietnam and Japan. It is difficult to determine its native range due to the long tradition of use as a food"

When I adopted my first turtle, I tried coaxing her out by calling out, "Hey there". She'd come out look around and slink back in her shell. Since then I called her Heather. Found out 4 years later she was a he, renamed him Harvey.

Maureen, Shirley, Gladys, Beryl, Bertha, Doris, Ethel - think old lady names work well with a turtle/tortoise.

    • Maybe he is still a Gregg, maybe he was just making an omelet. :biggrin1:
    • So where's the baby turtle, if you found egg shell fragments?
    • I am trying to resist inappropriate jokes about straight men not knowing anything about female genitalia.

:261: I'm from a rural area. If the animal that lives with you doesn't have a name it's livestock. Pets get names.

    Good Girl Turtle Names:
    Gwendolynn
    Siobhan
    Rhiannon
    or my personal fave Boadicea

the egg would need to have been fertilized by a male to produce a baby turtle.
