I was looking for a Sleigh bed in a cherry or walnut finish, but I found the exact simple, clean styling I found at Ethan Allen, but in only two color choices -- Rustique or white.

Admittedly, I had been thinking of white as an option, but in rattan, with other furnishings that evoke a tropical feel ... but a sleigh bed in white, with other white furnishings?

I feel it expands the color choices for bedding, drapery, oriental rugs, etc., but is it manly? Or girly?

As Long as you like it, who cares if it's Manly or girly(whatever those two terms mean)

As long as the color of it doesn't disturb your rest pattern and is conducive to a good nights rest. To me decor is all about one's personal environment improving the quality of their lives. So a white bed, if it makes you happier, that measurable degree of happiness isn't gender specific, so go for it.

White furniture always reminds me of 80s porn.

As long as you like it it's the best bed for you. I think depending on the colors, textures and patterns you use it would be neither masculine or feminine. My first thought was tropical as well.

    thanx guys!

more or less what I thought, but the thought occurred to me I should probably consider what someone would think, should someone ever accept an invite to share for the evening ...

If they are more interested in your furnishings than they are you I doubt you would be in for a very interesting session anyway. Buy what you want and like

Sleigh beds are Empire style so usually they're naturally finished. So long as it doesn't come off looking like anything Louis, you're good to go. Besides, if you don't like it you can always antique it or strip it and then repaint, stain, lacquer, or tompe l'oeil the thing.
