I'll tell you what, come back in a month or two (after you go to court for this) and then report back every 6 months for the next 3 years and tell me about your experiences. Please keep track of the financial aspects of it and see how much this is really going to cost you. You see, now that you've had a revoked license and was caught driving on it, gone to jail for it. If you thought $ 800 was going to cover it for the class and they let you go on your merry way a wiser man for it with a reinstated DL, you are naive. You've got even more expenses coming your way. First, they'll want you to get your DL reinstated nice and proper and guess what, they aren't thoroughly convinced that you've turned the corner on your life of bending the rules and that you've turned over that new leaf just yet, so there will be restrictions on that one. Might be a work only permit. And guess what, they mean work only, not the grocery store or a late night run to taco bell or anything else you think of as trivial or an insignificant bending of the rule. You'll be paying out close to what you would for a DUI/DWI. Guess what princess, you're going to need an SR-22, so that means you need to be in a high risk insurance pool, that's not going to be cheap either and you'll have to carry that with some off brand insurance company, State Farm isn't going to give you any safe driver discounts any time soon, that's if you even are insured by them. GEICO same thing, they will make it difficult for you to be financially responsible.
The next time you get pulled over, they'll know what your record is by simply running your DL, asking for insurance and registration. Better be squared away and have your paperwork in order, they'll bust you for that with no breaks that day either. Think I'm being hard on you, the day in jail is just the beginning. You're going to have to be cleaner than the next guy and some police officers will hang a ticket on you, just to make you take the day to be at court to fight it. You may beat them, then again they might still charge you court costs and give you adjudication withheld. See, it'll be your word against the officer's and the judge will see your record, and you get no benefit of the doubt in a one on one that day.
You see crime really does pay, just not you, the system is what it is. And for the law enforcement people to do what they do as a career, they need guys like you, "laid back, know it alls" that made one mistake. Don't worry, you'll make another and you'll get your opportunities to "buy your way out". As I recall the feast of life you speak of, well, the cuisine in jail sucked per your account of it. Those are your words, not mine.
So when do you go in front of the judge again ? Cha-Ching ! Ring up another happy customer ? Will that be a new thread or an addendum to this one ? Brace yourself for the worst, buckle up and strap your helmet on, it's going to be a turbulent ride.
