Let me dispel something right off the bat. Tantric massage doesn't have a happy ending. You want to be brought to the edge of orgasm, not induce it.
The masseur I go to is a legally-licensed massage therapist trained in numerous techniques. He also trained directly with the
Body Electric School in tantric massage.
Tantric's goal is to stimulate the body's chakras and then distribute that energy throughout the body. I'm not a hippie or a new ager and deeply suspicious of such things, but this stuff works. I don't know why it does. I took the Body Electric intro course and thought it was largely silly New Age stuff until I experienced it.
The sessions begin with normal massage of the back, neck, arms, legs, butt, and feet using standard Swedish and a few Shiatsu techniques mixed in with lomi lomi and Thai as the masseur is trained. I'm lucky that my guy is very broadly trained and knows my body so he knows just the places to work. About half the session is spent lying face down. There is some stimulation of the anus which can include digital penetration.
The second half of the session is spent lying face up and the massage of the pecs, arms, and legs continues but also includes direct stimulation of the penis and testes. Throughout this part, the genitals are intermittently stimulated to raise the kundalini of the root chakra and as that energy is raised, the masseur then uses broad strokes to move that energy around the body to energize it while in an extremely relaxed state.
Throughout all of this, the person being massaged uses breathing techniques to help distribute the feelings of pleasure and relaxation all through the body. These usually consist of short inhales followed by long exhales though there are two breathing changes which follow intense genital stimulation that brings you to the plateau phase of orgasm. Once you reach the plateau phase, the client changes the breathing pattern to a series of 20 rapid breaths followed by 20 more even faster ones and then what's called, The Big Draw, the first of which happens about midway through the session. The Big Draw is where you take a few long breaths and then inhale deeply and tense all your muscles in the body while holding the breath. At the end of the second Big Draw, after which the session itself ends, the masseur covers the client with warm towels or sheets and stands back for a few minutes to allow the client to relax and revel in the feelings. After that, some chilled fruit juice or water or green tea is offered to the client to refresh.
Because tantric requires that the client knows how to do the breathing techniques, I think it's important that potential clients take the intro Body Electric course though there's no reason why a good masseur couldn't teach it during an extra-long first session. This focus on breathing helps to keep the client present in the moment while helping the massage to work as it should. It is a very important part of the process.
You might think that being brought to the edge of orgasm without ejaculating is enormously frustrating, but it isn't. The breathing techniques help a great deal with this as does the massage applied to the groin area to literally help dissipate vasocongestion associated with arousal. If the client should ejaculate, the masseur just cleans-up the semen and continues with the session. There is no shame in ejaculating though if the client is getting close to the point-of-no-return, he should let the masseur know to help prevent ejaculation. Sometimes it just creeps-up on you though that has never happened to me.
There are techniques for women as well and Body Electric does teach these techniques for straight couples and lesbians so everyone can enjoy them.
The effect of all of this is quite unusual. Unlike traditional massage where I feel so relaxed I'm almost tired, with tantric you feel very centered and aware of everything around you. It puts you into not so much a state of elation as of contentment and clear thought with lots of energy. It also helps make you very aware of your body. I prefer it to traditional massage because it focuses on all parts of the body, not just the prudish
safe areas. My masseur uses reflexology, pressure points, lomi lomi (which I really like), and all kinds of adjunct therapies to incorporate as much of the body as possible. Mind you that I think enough of his services that I travel 2 hours into New York and 2 hours back to do this. Nobody anywhere near me does this and he's acknowledged as being very good at what he does.
If you're a massage therapist, I urge you to check out the Body Electric website and maybe take the intro course. It's very well worth it. They have a separate program for professional massage therapists where you can train in-house, but try the intro course and see if you like it.
