Let's hope some other people can do this too. Here's my voice, and therefore accent. It's a poem I wrote and recorded so I could send it someone a while back.

My accent

That's a great accent you've got there. It actually reminds me of Ewan McGregors American-ised/Anglican-ised Scottish accent.

Hands down...southern for me.
Living in Nebraska most of my life has left me w/a very nuetral accent, so like Julian, most accents that sound different to me sound good (but southern really gets me hot)

And my final note - the hillbilly accents, especially from the Ozarks and to some degree from the Appalachians, seem to get the most negative responses from people of other areas in this country. The interesting part is that these dialects appear to be the last remaining vestiges of the English language from the Shakespearean era. Creature=critter, victuals (food)=vittles, the list goes on... these pronunciations were common, proper, and accepted in London at the time.

I saw a show about the Appalachian dialect on PBS a few years back and how the speech patterns, and even some of their words, were, in fact, directly traceable to English usage at the time that people came to that area from England/Scotland/Ireland back in the 18th century. It was fascinating to see how they traced the folk language, poetry and music back to Britain and the Scots-Irish settlers. I guess because they are so remote that they just didn't have the influences of the city culture and have the changes over the years.

South Dakota rezzes are generally marked by a few universals in the accent.

Hello becomes hola. (Contraction of the Lakota "ho kola". Kola has come to mean friend, but it used to mean someone you would die for, a uniquely male relationship.)
Other contractions like init.
A tendency to accent the last syllable.

My favorite was a women I met once that was British, and lived in Atlanta for 20 years. She spoke high-class english with a southern twang.

Having a Scottish accent has helped with girls here, they usually seem to like it and its a good ice breaker because they ask about were I come from, so I get to talk to them without having to think of anything interesting to say apart from being boring old me!! lol

I find most accents can turn me on if the tone of the voice has a nice timbre to it. Spanish speaking accents, Italian, Greek, Australian, Irish and most British accents turn me on. Scottish accents REALLY get my motor running though.

Yeah, I like a lot of Spanish-speaking accents too. And most Italian accents, but not Sicilian.
[post=344225]Quoted post[/post]

never heard a real Sicilian accent, how does to differ from the other Italian accents in your opinion, Jon ?

"my mice clenched in my pam" for "my mouse clenched in my palm". Hmmm...

"Mice" could be a number of places around the UK, including extreme forms of Home Counties Toff. But "pam" for "palm" is definitely Irish.

Great speaking voice, BTW.

A youth wasted ogling Natasha Nogoodnik from Rocky and Bullwinkle, maybe? Russians still have that tinge of danger about them...

Obscure post, on the subject of accents

In Sydney, 20 years ago or more, I was lucky enough to catch the famous Nimrod production of The Taming of the Shrew.

The whole thing was done in Spaghetti English, overplayed gangster-Italian accents milked for laughs. Further, that peculiar Australian form of Spagnetti English which seems to insert several more vowels into every vowel sound, one of which is always a long "i".

But when it came time to do the sensitive love scenes, the Italian accent changed into a proper, upper-class Italian accent, a la Marcello Mastroianni. Anna Volska doing the I am ashamed that women are so simple... speech sounded like Sophia Loren. She certainly gave my 10% a workout!

(for Australians: I think she and John Bell were just married and the accent device was adopted so she could appear opposite him.)
