Is it just me or does anyone else find the sexual orientation field on the registration form to be really insulting.

Apparently I can't be bisexual; I have to be x% straight and y% gay.

I am 100% bisexual.

p.s. The Kinsey Scale?! Really?

Yeah, it is somewhat discriminatory. Like many sites, they still see things in black/white. At least here they have a sliding scale. One can choose straight with how much leaning towards gay and vice-versa. But there's no option to chose BI with how much leaning towards gay or straight.

It's discrimination I tell you!! :biggrin1:

It's less semantics and more erasure. Bisexuality is an identity in its own right, and insisting that we define ourselves in relation to two other identities is a refusal to acknowledge that.

Also the Kinsey Scale is problematic as hell with regards to non-binary gender identities.

I appreciate that this is probably not going to be the best place in the world to discuss queer politics, however, I did want to see if anyone else had picked up on this.

In the off-chance that anyone is interested in this, I highly recommend Shiri Eisner's blog and book.

Doesn't bother me in the least. Makes sense when looked at. Part straight...how much I am into women, part gay....how much I am into men.
Never gave it a thought that it was insulting.

For the record, I refer to myself as 100% bisexual, and list my leaning accordingly.

Everyone needs to feel special...and let everyone else know how special they are....

First, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Second, if you believe that not being intolerant is boring, then I have no interest in having any form of further communication with you.

Goodbye :)

Like it's a form of wit below sea level? Like it's at a low altitude?

I believe that tolerance is acceptance of all people. Which I've always lived by. But I also tend to see the less serious side of everything. So when things get dramatically serious I get bored.

I'm sorry you want to cease communications. I thought we were having a smashing good time!?

Wait....so you can be intolerant of another person for what they post and refer to as sarcasm, and that's supposed to be all good but if the site doesn't have a listing for bisexual percentage then it is being intolerant and you can't abide that?

The site itself is not being intolerant. It has been explained why the listings are as they are, it's up to you to decide how to apportion them to your listings.

I suppose in a perfect world, there might be a way to rewrite things to change from gay and straight to male and female (or female and male). Then if you are bisexual you could list as 40%male/60% female (or any other numbers) and if male and only into men, then 100%male, or if only into women then100%female......of course that could add confusion as somebody might think the male member was a female.....
