This morning's article from MSNBC regarding deception and fraudulent voter information, reminiscent of the days of Jim Crow, and targeted at Jews, Latinos, and African Americans in an effort to DEFRAUD voters of their right to vote.

To quote the article,
"The intent, almost always, is to keep folks from voting or to confuse them, usually through intimidation or misinformation. But in this presidential race, in which a black man leads most polls, some of the deceit has a decidedly racist bent."

According to the news item, their deceitful tactics have included the following:

  • Fliers distributed in predominantly African-American neighborhoods of Philadelphia warning voters they could be arrested at the polls if they had unpaid parking tickets or if they had criminal convictions.
  • In Virginia, bogus fliers with an authentic-looking commonwealth seal telling Democrats that (due to high turnout) they’d have to vote on Wednesday.
  • In New Mexico, two Hispanic women filed lawsuits for harassment by a private investigator working for a Republican lawyer who came to their homes and threatened to call immigration authorities, even though they are U.S. citizens.
  • In Pennsylvania, e-mails °linking Obama to the Holocaust, claiming "Jewish Americans cannot afford to make the wrong decision on Tuesday, Nov. 4," adding "Many of our ancestors ignored the warning signs in the 1930s and 1940s and made a tragic mistake."
  • In Pennsylvania, leaflets taped to picnic benches at Drexel University, warning students that police would be at the polls on Tuesday to arrest would-be voters with prior criminal offenses.
  • In Jewish neighborhoods, fliers claiming Obama was more sympathetic to Palestinians than to Israel, and showed a photograph of him speaking in Germany.
  • In Nevada, Latino voters who had received calls from people describing themselves as Obama volunteers, urging them to cast their ballot over the phone. stuff going on in the campaigns, and it doesn't get investigated."
The White House contest of 2004 was marked by similar deceptions. For example, in Milwaukee, fliers went up advising people "if you've already voted in any election this year, you can't vote in the presidential election." And in Pennsylvania, a letter bearing what appeared to be the McCandless Township seal falsely proclaimed that in order to cut long voting lines, Republicans would cast ballots on Nov. 2 and Democrats would vote on Nov. 3.

This is nature of the people who want to occupy the highest offices in the land.

Seriously though, why do these tactics need to be played by either side? Lies and threats just seem to make stupid people even dumber and people afraid of the right decision. Gullible yes, but why exploit it?

You're correct. However, the Constitution provides for State Electors (Electoral College) and its the STATES that provide the right and privilege to vote.

Federal Taxes weren't ratified, but you pay them. You have a right to vote in this Country.

So then your argument would be that since the people targeted by Republican dirty tricks technically don't have the right to vote, it is alright to distribute fraudulent information, to mail counterfeit "official" documents telling people they have to vote a day after the election, to harass Latino American citizens and threaten them with deportation, and to erroneously characterize your opponent as an anti-Semite?

Are you loony? Do you really think voting is not part of our constitution?

I suggest you go back and read Article 1; section 2, Article 1; section 3 (and the 17th amendment) & Amendment 19.

Haha, Mississippi politics are just dirty. Has nothing to do with GOP influence.
There isn't much difference between Wicker and Musgrove, so, listed as a Democrat or not, the voters could cover their eyes and throw a dart, and not go wrong.

I met Marshall Bennett years ago, and think he would make an excellent MS Senator. But he is probably too intelligent to run.

I have no problem with people who fall for this stuff, dishonest as it may be. It is a basic intelligence test. If you're too stupid to fall for it, you don't deserve a vote.

Threatening people with jail time or deportation for voting is not an intelligence test. It's a scare tactic. And the hyper-conservatives made a career for themselves based on them.

Only states that the people elect the representatives and senators, and when the people are given a vote, it cannot be denied due to gender and, including the 15th amendment, race. We still limit this "right" based on age, with few objections.

The Republicans have been dirty dogs for years... I thank God that we have the internet and cell phones, because the election fraud that they are always trying to perpetrate is now being illuminated for all to see.

Election fraud is evil.

The Republicans have been engaged in nefarious activities for years and have been doing... you guessed it... THE WORK OF THE DEVIL!!!!!

The Republicans are evil and need to be stopped at all costs.

God is watching.
