^Not exactly the sort of policy someone can count on.
In my extensive personal experience, very few doctors will accept an appreciable discount. Some doctors will work with you on a payment schedule (but screw your credit rating until you're paid off), but most won't do a thing until you're sooo far past due, that they now figure you're never going to pay, so they'll take a 'settlement' (and screw your credit rating).
Mind you, I speak from extensive personal experience, due to a nasty car wreck I was in about a decade ago, that was never cleared off my record until I finally accepted reality and declared bankruptcy. And I had my wife at the time helping me, who was a medical bill collections supervisor for Tenet Healthcare, and my best friend, who was a billing auditor for the same company. (now he's a manager of many auditors for a company that does contract work for the FL state Medicaid program)
