I never said I thought Romney lost the debate. I felt Obama did better in this debate than the last because he was much more assertive. Overall, when a challenger stands toe to toe with the president and his presence is as strong as the president's, it is a win for the challenger. We saw that last night.
But this all changes when the president has been beaten previously and now is playing catchup. In a sense, Obama was the underdog last night and he came back and exceeded expectations.
Last night was far better for Obama than for Romney.
I do concede that Romney is every bit the debater than Obama is ... and maybe better. And he is a far more formidable candidate than I had been assuming.
That said, and though, as a Canadian, I don't have a dawg in this fight ... I hope Obama goes on to win the election.
My hunch is still to put money on him.
Obama spent most of the night defending his last 4 years and that hurt him as well. Dems will be satified by the red meat and 'not true' statements but it didn't help Obama.
It's unavoidable that he defend the past four years. The question is how creditably he did so. I think he did pretty well.
And, because of the catchup factor, Obama's performance helped him a lot.
The mod was continuously interupting romney, rarely interupting obama. She paraphrased almost every question and even some of obama's answers! When she wasn't doing that she was offering answers for him and setting the table for him! She was like a human teleprompter at times, lol. Despite all of this Obama still didn't hold the evening!
This is an exaggeration. Crowley was a pretty good moderator.
And when we woke up this morning all the talk was about the whole Benghazi thing where the mod cut off Romney and backed up Obama. But everyone knows the truth is that Obama blamed the attack on a video for two weeks! Doesn't matter what the mod said. This will be talked about all week and into the next debate where it will take center stage as foreign policy is the focus.
The post-debate polls are far more telling than discussion of one of many topics touched on last night.
And it seems the president impressed viewers and listeners more than Romney did.
Last night did nothing but help Romney.
No. Romney lost ground. He seemed a full head taller than Obama after the first debate, he seemed only the same height during the debate and, given what we now see in polls, he's now shrinking in size compared to the pres.
