I want your opinions: what do you think would happen if Richard achieves mainstream success with Eternals and becomes a leading Marvel actor?
1. His agents and general team would force him to back off and into the closet to make sure they offer him more heterosexual male alpha hero roles and become an idol to women.

2. He would take advantage of his fame to come out of the closet and become the first a-list actor belonging to the lgbt community. Do you think he would receive the same support from the public? That is, his career in Hollywood depends on the acceptance or affectation that his coming out of the closet has, if it is good and receives admiration, it is most likely that Hollywood will hang on that to see itself more open to changes, but if on the contrary it is bad and many people stop supporting it, the studios would not have to invest in an actor who attracts little public, remember that cinema is a business, and in a business people and / or audience is the most important thing.

This sort of assumes that it's a surprise that these things are happening for Richard when it's not. He won a golden globe, had a hit show, landed his Marvel gig and several other projects all while openly dating men for the last 3 years. So it doesn't really make sense that the movie coming out would change anything. The time for Richard to decide to try to seem straight if that's what you're suggesting was right after he won the golden globe which was when he publicly started dating men.

People have been predicting this whole time that Richard would finally get a beard or finally date women publicly and you know what he did right after he ended his last relationship with a man? He he began another man. I think it's a fallacy to suggest that suddenly Richard's people are going to wake up and realize holy shit he's gonna be a big star. And furthermore Richard himself does not want that kind of fame, it's pretty apparent if you follow him for any length of time.

But I also don't expect some gigantic announcement about his sexuality because that's also not what he wants apparently. And I don't see why he should have to, he's not lying, he's not hiding, he'a just private and if that pisses people off so be it.

I think the issue with comic book fans or straight fans in general is that they live vicariously through these characters, same with stans in Stan culture so if the actors stray too far from their idea of norm it becomes a problem. It’s why we don’t get many openly gay comic book characters and why rewriting some as female I.E. Captain America gets a lot of hate by default. I just wanna see Mr Madden bust open some ass with his monster cock let him be straights

A lot of “straight” guys want to be able to see the leading man of a blockbuster as a “bro”, someone they can relate to or look up to. Most “straight” dudes are not gonna look up to unabashed “queer” males, especially if they’re “gay” or unabashedly homo-leaning. It is what it is. But yes, no one should give a shit about “straight” guys. The world would be a much better place if no one gave a shit about “straight guys”. While a lot of women do lose interests in conventionally good-looking, “masculine presenting” male public figures once they find out they’re into their sex/enter same-sex commitments/is “gay” identifying. And yes, male homophobia is still a widespread issue. This old-school bottom line thinking still propels the industry.

My breakdown is about how people and especially the industry perceive things, why things still are the way that they are. It doesn’t always reflect the reality of how things play out. But there are many reasons why things remain so messy. I do love the “everyone can kiss my ass/I’m not here to appease anyone” mentality. Doesn’t really change the issues and reasons though.

Marvel hired him at the height of the stories about him and Flynn. After they split everyone said he'd get a gf and he started again publicly dating a man. So I don't see why anything would be different now. Besides, they want brownie points for diversity.

I think it's more about what Richard is comfortable with than big bad Disney.
