You all probably thought that Perry's performances in debate couldn't get any worse. Well, watch this, just recorded this evening:

Perry cant name third agency - YouTube

Danny Yadron said:
After some parrying with fellow candidates and the moderators, he tried to come up with the third: "The third agency of government I would do away with—Education…Commerce and, let's see. I can't. The third one—I can't."

"Sorry," he concluded. "Oops."

After the debate, Mr. Perry acknowledged the stumble, telling reporters: "I stepped in it."

On that point, many agreed.

"This will be instant-replayed all night and all day. It's a deer-in-the-headlights moment," said Roger Stone, a longtime Republican operative. "It just shows he's not ready for prime time." (Source)

I'm a little sad to be honest about Perry's lack of performance. I was hoping he would make it to the nomination because he would be an easier target for Obama to pick off. It's unbelievable and embarrassing that this man runs the second largest state in the Union (in population and size).

He still might get the nomination though because I'm not sure how Romney is going get through the Bible thumping primaries like South Carolina where people will be voting solely on Evangelical credentials....and a Latter Day Saint goes not pass the grade with people who ultimately want a theocracy or Christian version of Sharia law.

It's certainly fun to watch! I can't believe the Republicans could not field a credible contender. Maybe they don't really want to win this next round?

The GOP WILL win this election. Obama has sucked so bad It really doesn't matter who the GOP nominates they will win by a landslide just like Reagan did when he ran against Jimmy Carter back in 1980.

Perry may be the Governor of Texas but he does not run the state. Of all of the states of the Union, Texas' governor has the least to do. The Power is in the legislature. Think of Perry as the Queen of Texas.

Apparently the entire GOP keeps telling itself that.

You've got a crystal ball, have you? Or were you just born with the gift of certitude without knowledge?

^^this is tru^^

every time i watch cspan for 10 min i realize how little any of our elected public officials know. they rely entirely on staffers to feed them speeches, edit facts and info, and basically write their scripts for them. none of them will deviate from patented talking points because they CANT.

we elect candidates in the US the same way we crown dancing with the stars contestants. we end up with ego centric career politicians, it's embarassing, and one of the reasons we're in deep shit.

I'm not so sure about that. Obama is sitting back and letting the reality show contestants vote themselves off the island. All these debates may actually backfire on the GOP because it creates plenty of ammunition in regard to gaffes, flip-flops, looking un-presidential, etc.

The GOP has a do-nothing Congress, and they really faired poorly in the elections this week. They are over-playing all their hands because they really don't have the mandate they think they do. Obama has been stellar on foreign policy....hell, if he was a Republican, he'd have his head on Mt. Rushmore by now for expediting Gadaffi and Bin Laden. The economy sucks, but it does everywhere in the world, and those gears were in motion long before he came into office. If there are just a few quarters with upticks in the economy, that perception may change dramatically.

So, who do the Republicans have? One Ken-doll robot who is hated within his own party and another 7 foaming at the mouth extremists. No wonder Chris Christie ran off scremaing. Obama looks pretty Presidential next to this lot.

If I may though . . . Let us not forget that, during the height of the healthcare debate, Obama staged a live, nationally televised summit, in which for nearly seven hours he took on the best that his Republican opponents could dish out and fended off every challenge--without recourse to the infamous teleprompter. In the process, he provided a detailed defense of the 2,700-page bill. If his performance was criticized for anything, it was for him having *too* much to say on the issues and not allowing others on his own side to add their comments.

Can you think of a time in history when *any* US president has left himself that exposed, that vulnerable to potential mishap, in front of that size audience, for that long? And yet the GOP could use precisely *nothing* from that entire summit against Obama afterwards.

Can you imagine how George W. Bush--or Rick Perry--would fare under similar circumstances?

They're all politicians, yes. But they're not all just the same.

yeah, i guess given they have no plan to get the country back on track, the fact that they lack a realistic plan (or candidate) to take back the white house shouldn't come as a big surprise.

I half expect Jeb Bush to come riding to the rescue if this clown circus continues. he'd have the (family/robber baron/saudi arabian) money, name recognition (more a + than - with republicans) and solid business (wall st.) backing, and actually the right mix of moderate necessary to win the general election. though technically i think it's too late now, or maybe not (are we past a legal calendar date cut off or is it just about gaming the odds to win with a late entry?), he could probably forefeit the early states and still come in and win the nomination.

How about Clinton. He was about to deliver the State of the Union Address to Congress when it was discovered that the speech had been left behind. George Stephenopolis was dispatched back to the White House to get the speech but, by the time he returned, Clinton was already delivering the State of the Union off the cuff. He delivered the entire state of the Union without aids; no teleprompter, no hard copy. And nobody knew the difference.

Good one! And again, I say to myself, why oh why, God, didn't you put W. in that kind of extreme public-speaking situation, just once???

It would have been . . . amazing! :biggrin1:

yeah, obama's an anomaly, and there are a handfull of others present and past , i guess should have use "vast majority" instead of "any" but the exceptions are so few it seemed a fine hair to split.

I think Clinton's handlers had the luxury of having an intelligent, knowlegeable and probably the most politically astute President. Therefore they had a comfort in knowing that should a mishap occur, Clinton would have the ability to handle.

W's handler's were smarter than he. They knew he had to be kept on a very short leesh because he would likely be incapable of handling any mishap. The higher the stakes the more vigilant were his handlers. Therefore, no high profile speaking mishaps.

"It is wonderful to be back in Oregon," Obama said. "Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."
