Now we find out that 10 members of Congress have asked for increased security following threats. This comes on the heels of Teabaggers spitting on Democratic members of Congress this weekend, and calling a famous African-American civil rights leader (and also member of Congress) "nigger," and calling openly-gay Congressman Barney Frank "faggot."

Here are Chuck Todd's tweets on the latest:
RT @chucktodd: House Maj. Leader Hoyer says he's worried about the security of fellow House Dems; Calls on House GOP leaders to join in decrying threats

RT @chucktodd: Hoyer says any member of Congress who is concerned about threats is receiving access to security; So far, over 10 members.
AMERICAblog News: Teabagger terrorism? Hoyer worried about security for House Dems, 10 members getting security after threats

The calls placed to Stupak's office reveal the extreme anger members of Congress are facing.
"Congressman Stupak, you baby-killing mother f***er... I hope you bleed out your a**, got cancer and die, you mother f***er," one man says in a message to Stupak.
"There are millions of people across the country who wish you ill," a woman says in a voicemail, "and all of those thoughts that are projected on you will materialize into something that's not very good for you."
CBS News also obtained copies of faxes sent to Stupak, which include racial epithets used in reference to President Obama and show pictures of nooses with Stupak's name.

Last week, the anti-reform advocacy group the Committee to Rethink Reform published an ad in The Cincinnati Enquirer featuring a photo of Dreihaus with his children. (Both the Committee and the Enquirer have retracted and apologized for the ad.) Now, conservatives are planning a Sunday protest outside of his house, after a conservative blog put his address--complete with directions--on the Internet.
Speaking to me and another reporter outside the House chamber this afternoon, Driehaus said Republican leaders are to blame for the vitriol--and implied that they will bear some responsibility if reform opponents' anger bubbles over into violence.
"I think if you look at some of the language that has been used by leaders on the Republican side, one shouldn't be surprised," Driehaus said. "Unfortunately many of us are now receiving threats, death threats.... These comments that have been made by Republican leaders can serve as--I don't know if I want to say an excuse or perhaps permission for people who may be unbalanced, who may be calling with these threats."
Amid Death Threats, Dem Rep Driehaus Points The Finger At GOP Leadership | TPMDC
"My number one priority right now is ensuring the safety of my brother's family, and I am grateful to law enforcement for their excellent work," Perriello said in a statement today. "While it is too early to say anything definitive regarding political motivations behind this act, it's never too early for political leaders to condemn threats of violence, particularly as threats to other Members of Congress and their children escalate."

And more recently...some idiot republican said..."Kill them all!" then follows up with...I didn't mean it. I mean really... IF anyone said that during the previous admin...they would have disappeared or would have been imprisoned. All they need to do is drop a seed and incite the idiots of the extreme right...and someone will try do do just that. I hope that the people are judged harshly for their words and threats.

I don't entrust any Republican leadership to step up, take ownership over this, and call for it to end. The best they could come up with was ol' McCain's weak-hearted attempts to discourage supporters from disparaging Obama's family. Now in their quest to go completely for broke, idiots like that Devin N.-something -- he's a Republican Rep. from California -- are legitimizing these fools. The Congressman blames "totalitarian tactics." Really? SERIOUSLY?

Shit. When Bush was in office, protesters were cordoned and fenced off in their own areas. I think local police departments should take the same approach. When it gets hairy, start holding them off and, if resisted, lock 'em up. We don't need good people trying to do their jobs to get hurt or worse over a vote. (Then again, cynical me says that if a Republican were being threatened, they would speak up.)

No one was inside when the brick was hurled through the Democratic Patry Headquarters on University Avenue. Attached was a note quoting conservative Barry Goldwater: “Exremism [sic] in defense of liberty is no vice”. [...]
[Rep. Louise] Slaughter has been at the center of the push for reform. Last Thursday she received a chilling recorded message at her campaign office. “Assassinate is the word they used…toward the children of lawmakers who voted yes.”
The FBI is now investigating.
Think Progress Vandals hit at least five Dem offices nationwide, threaten to ‘assassinate’ children of pro-reform lawmakers.
Vanderboegh posted the call for action Friday on his blog, “Sipsey Street Irregulars.” Referring to the health care reform bill as “Nancy Pelosi’s Intolerable Act,” he told followers to send a message to Democrats.
“We can break their windows,” he said. “Break them NOW. And if we do a proper job, if we break the windows of hundreds, thousands, of Democrat party headquarters across this country, we might just wake up enough of them to make defending ourselves at the muzzle of a rifle unnecessary.”

I've also been following these stories today Indy. It seems that the right wing extremists and propagandists, feeling cornered and with nothing to lose, are preparing to pull out all the stops. Stay tuned...

Some of this anger will ebb, and people will began thinking how stupid the anger was/is, or continue. Some Right wing clown in NY State is saying that Obama care will kill more people than 9/11...and he's planning on running for governor. It's sad and frightening how ignorance seems to be the political advantage of the Republican Party.

frankly i find the "N" word and the "F*ggot" insults to be despicable...but i cannot say that people being absolutely furious beyond words to the point of threats, but not overt violence, towards the US government bothers me in the slightest.

I am glad they are scared...maybe if more republicans and democrats in congress were scared shitless, they might realize how furious the citizens are, about a range of issues, and stop passing irresponsible bills and spending money like drunken sailors, from both ridiculous parties.

people should be furious at this government...the congress and the president don't have to be part of the new health system...the people who work for the federal and state governments earn more now on average than your average person in the private sector...government pensions are far larger and far more secure than the pensions of the average private sector worker, and the average private sector worker does not have nearly the same job security that a government worker does.

as Pierre Joseph-Proudhon said:

"To be governed, is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled . . . by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so.
To be governed is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, counted, taxed . . . . It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be placed under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited . . . then, at the slightest resistance, the first word of complaint, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, hunted down, abused . . . and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, dishonored. That is government; that is its justice; that is its morality."

sounds pretty much like what we have had for the last couple of decades...finally reaching its culmination...and add in a dose of incompetence and looming bankruptcy to boot.

quite a stew we have

I told a friend months ago, my gut told me that the 'Tea (Bag) Party" was nothing more than SA-esque Brownshirts for the lunatic fringe of the growing disillusioned. Remember that former Soviet poli sci analyst who predicted the USA would eventually break apart into several republics? Hmmmmmmmmmm....this is scary shit folks.

The hysterics of these people and their pathological hatred of a black president is astonishing, actually. These are the homegrown terrorist DHS was talking about, and the Tea Baggers are more like neo-nazi's and they are clinging to their religion and guns. They think they are patriots, but they are hatriots who don't understand the first thing about FREEDOM they scream about at the top of their lungs. Who gave them the freedom to make people live in fear of their lives and families, and to destroy personal and government property?

Incapable of making a sane argument (even with a mountain of attack ads) to convince lawmakers and the public that their positions are just and true, they resort to violence and destruction.

Let us hope their attention span is only as big as their brains and this dies out quickly. They are angry because they are ineffective, so their only option is to lash out, and that's the biggest sign of how pathetic their "cause" is.

well, while i do not think that will happen, it comes down to the fact that the two extremes in this country, simply cannot seem to live together or deal with each other anymore.

if i had to make a choice, where to live, where would i choose? a country totally controlled by the Conservative Republicans and what they espouse, or a country totally controlled by the Liberal Democrats and what they espouse?

frankly, i think both would suck.

Conservatard America would let me keep all my money, but probably force me to go to church, wear uncomfortable clothes, and not let me watch porn or smoke pot....i could drive a ferrari as fast as i wanted, and i could enjoy the great outdoors, which will have no forests left, and the air will be unbreathable and the water undrinkable because we abolished the EPA. But i would be able to participate free in any 700 Club picnic or discussion group as long as i converted from Judaism and agreed to bring bagels for everyone.

Libtard America would let me have cool clothes and watch all the porn i want and smoke all the pot i want...i wouldn't be able to afford any of it because the government would have taken all my money in taxes anyway, and all my savings and benefits, would be deemed satisfactory by them...i would not have to go to church, but if i chose to attend, i would not be able to drive a porsche there, unless it was electric, was governed at 50 mph, and was made out of environmentally friendly clay.

neither is very appealing.

Ah, the amusing irony of someone who lives in Texas quoting Thomas Jefferson. :biggrin1:

You're an ass... Leave your bitterness for your years in Texas somewhere else, and stop picking on an entire state of people because some fool wants to quote Jefferson. Its beneath you and the ideas and arguments you bring to this board, and I'm frankly tired of it.
