This morning I clicked a link to site that sells T-shirts with right-wing messages. Some of them are funny but I think in unintended ways. Advisory: If you're a left-winger and unbalanced, don't look! You might pop a gasket.

    Those Shirts - Conservative T-Shirts

I've attached some sample pics. My fav: re-defeat communism.

All four of the ones you pointed out aren't so much pro-conservative as they are anti-liberal. And except for the last one, which seems to be specifically aimed at Hillary, they're pretty indiscriminate. Their message seems to be that All liberals suck. Why? Just because.

We have anti-conservative t-shirts on our side of the aisle, too, but our t-shirts tend to be aimed at either a particular issue (reproductive choice, the war in Iraq, religious and other bigotry), or at particular individuals (Bush and Cheney, obviously, but Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh figure prominently as well). I think you're a lot less likely to find progressives wearing t-shirts that accuse all conservatives of sucking for no particular reason at all.

I've seen a few such shirts, but not many. Our message is richer than that.

faceking, exactly! Some people take politics too seriously, especially extremists. They had fair warning [... you might pop a gasket]. I consider myself a centrist and I can enjoy the humor of either side. Too bad for those who can't.

Why is it that conservative "humour" is so angry?

I have to admit that "better Fred than dead" has a certain je ne sais quois.

    Semper Fido bothers me, though.

Would you claim that "liberal" "humor" is not?

I think the stereotype is that liberals have none.

Some of it is, although to me it seems that a lot of liberal humour runs to satire.

Anger, on the other hand, seems to be a nearly omnipresent quality in the work of conservative "humourists" and commentators.

It would be frightening if he had a slight chance. He only has a slight chance of getting the GOP noninmation.

The fact that the humor has a target (or victim, if you prefer) doesn't transform it into anger. Most humor does have a target.

I find conservative humor - say, O'Rourke - to be funnier than liberal humor, which leans too much toward the simultanously smug and strident for my taste. Though I can't say I spend much time reading either, unless the funny stuff is just an ancillary to more solid news or commentary (Mark Steyn, maybe, with drolleries similar to Dowd, whom he knocks into the weeds).

This is yet another very strange race. All of the candidates so far, of all parties, seem extraordinarily weak. The fact that Guliani is being run as a national Republican candidate makes no sense at all. Seen from anywhere aside from the coasts and a few midwestern cities, particularly strong Democratic party machine towns like Chicago or St. Louis, Guliani is almost indistinguishable from Hillary. Very odd. Thompson at least you might pick out of a police lineup as a Republican .... for better or worse.
