Rio swimwear!!

Ok so i'm off to Rio for a week followed by 3 months traveling in South America and then a further 3 months in Europe for the summer. Now being Australian our beach swimwear seems very different to those of Rio and Europe so I thought i'd ask the people of these two continents to lend a big guy a helping hand and give some suggestions......

I'm thinking of possibly going with one of these

the brief

Now I am a straight guy and wish to remain appearing so at the beach but I thought while i'm young and on holidays...oh and hung haha... why not embrace showing off a bit more at the beach instead of wearing long boardshorts

Most German young guys wear American (and apparently Aussie) style boardshorts. That seems to be the case in Italy, Spain, and Greece, too.
That said, I'm sure you'd attract a lot of attention in the sexy little briefs (or trunks).

if you want to stand out as a tourist target at the beach, wear american style boardshorts, to blend in, wear what the locals are wearing.
dont buy anything in advance, go there and buy what the locals are wearing. I went to Rio and took my speedos, but they still knew I was a tourist. How do I know they knew? simple, the ice cream and soda pop vendors all came up and immediately asked in english if i wanted anything. after I got a brasillian brand swim bikini, when they came around, they asked in portuguese.

Thats not really true. With my extensive travels in Germany over many years, when I am not at the nude lake, most men regardless of age wear Spedo style briefs. Only grade and high school boys wear the board shorts, and even they have briefs on under them.

I would concur with Swordie. But hey, if you want to feel good and flaunt the goods a bit, why not wear those two pieces of swimwear. Being a native of Rio myself, I would say they are entirely appropriate and will not stand out in any negative way.

For Rio; I'd go with the BRIEF. The American's hangup with boardshorts are just a study in how to make the male figure look disporportunate! It's RIO for God's sake!

And looking 'gay' isn't a real concern down there.

Also--I've worked in Europe for over 20y -- sorry to burst Deep Throat's bubble -- the SPEEDO BRIEF is the norm... young, old, fat, skinny... just the normal way to get wet!

10 years ago I was norm... now I'd say it is 60% speedo style and 40% shorts. Personally I prefer shorts, cause I'm a bit overweight and don't like my figure in speedos
