The quintessential Cosmo Girl has died. Her book Sex And The Single Girl is what started it all including the movie by the same name with Natalie Wood and Tony Curtis.
I used to remember seeing her in her Chanel suits near Hearst HQ. She was a pioneer and truly made 40 the new 30 for the rest of the world. RIP Miss Brown.

That magazine is something I wouldn't be caught dead with now, but it had a huge impact on me way back in the late 70s and early 80s. I don't know that girls today understand how few role models there were of career women - that whole "sex & the single girl" really was ground breaking stuff. We could have sex? Careers? Be single?

Those ideas are so antiquated now. Helen never let her husband see her without makeup, for example - didn't want to ruin the sexy fantasy/allure. She was entirely too thin (as in can't be too thin or too rich) and had very dated ideas, still....

Rest in peace Helen.
