I also had to wonder how his friend within hours of this accident was able to get a hold of all of his email contacts. I don't know anyone that has their email where anyone can sign in. I also dont think its common to give other people your passwords to check out your private stuff incase of an emergency, especially before you are 30 years old.

I've done lots of research on this death as well and nothing is matching this story.

Good points.
This does begin to sound more and more like an earlier 'death' on the board.
Some years back, a member had created a highly charismatic and, one must admit, positive figure on the board.
When he wanted to give up the subterfuge (or whatever his motive was ... I was never quite sure), he created another identity and announced the death of his 'brother.'
The whole board was traumatized, a kind of tribute to the attractiveness of the persona created.
The people who had bought in became highly angry ... in my view, a bit irrationally so, though there was a broad tapestry of opinion on the matter.

Would be horrible if it is actually true tho - both for penguin and for rubix, since we're sorta castigating him.

Hard to work out the truth of the matter tho, I admit.

I'm not castigating him in the slightest. I trust that this tragedy happened and I'd truly like to send a little something, maybe with other LPSG members too. That was the whole reason I started looking. I sent a PM to Rubix asking for the information right after I posted. I haven't heard back and that's understandable if someone is busy helping with arrangements and being with other friends and family. I'm more puzzled than anything else and, if it turns out this wasn't real, well then it wasn't. He wasn't a particular friend of mine so no real emotional harm done to me.

That all happened before I was here, or when I didn't visit here as often. The sad irony is that he later really did die.

I wonder why the OP hasn't posted since starting this thread.

Maybe he is sitting shiva with the family.

I really hope this isn't one of those fake death just to see who cares, or because they were just too stupid to delete their account and not come back. :irked: The more stuff like this happens, the less trusting I become.

That's how I feel. I was just about to add my condolences here, but I'm wondering...
While I have no idea if this is all true, I'll say now that if it is it's tragic and my most heartfelt thoughts are with "Tom" and the surviving loved ones who lost him.
But...
Jason's post set off an alarm in me (leave to You Jason - ever the thought-provoker...). :biggrin1:
I didn't know "Tom". Wanted to though. And besides just for the obvious reason. I first encountered him in a chat. When I read his profile and saw he was a guitar player I sensed a possibly kindred soul in a fellow musician. I attempted to initiate some communication, which was utterly ignored. The fact that some here have claimed to "know" or "speak" to him tells me he did, indeed, exist, but was clearly selective about whom he cared to converse with. Well - OK - that's common (in life in general, and particularly here at LPSG), so I'll accept that.
But Jason's post served to remind me about this post from May:
http://www.lpsg.org/134020-my-buddy-jeff.html#post2133981
"Tom"'s friend "Jeff" (Rubixian7) asked him to post his dick photo in advance to find out if we felt he belonged? WTF? What would "Jeff" care about what we think? The photo shows a hot, big dick. If that were me, I'd just register! ...And so he did that same month. Tho I find it particularly interesting that, as of this writing, the Rubixian7 profile has no verification photo. Neither, BTW, does the Metalpenguin666 profile. Just sayin'...
Me - I converted from Catholicism to Cynicism years ago...and anything that smells of a herring immediately makes my hedges grow higher.
But I want to reiterate, if it is all legit - then I am very sorry to hear the news.

If he is sitting shiva then I have to say, Tom's parents were very liberal Jews.

Are you really wondered!!!
Come on Nick, if I lost my best friend on here or just a good friend because he is death, I wouldn't come back on here.

I completely would. I would feel it a responsibility, no matter how much I was hurting. Even if just to say thanks to the other members for their good wishes.

And, time's still ticking...

I hope it is a fake death - because if it is then no one has died.

Whether Tom is real or fictional, passed away or just moved on, I wish him peace.

Excellent point, MB. xx

Shiva is continuous (when it is continuous ... it often isn't) for first degree relatives ... mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, spouse.
A friend would not normally sit shiva all this time.
(I'm not sure you're serious ... and I suspect you're not.)
If he is sitting shiva then I have to say, Tom's parents were very liberal Jews.
To say the least.

At first I didn't understand what you were driving at ... and in fact, I'm still not quite sure.
But it does suggest an odd relationship.
Two guys would normally not have that kind of connection.
But two sides of one guy's head might.
All of which I will feel dreadful about if the story turns out to be true.
Is it possible that MP wasn't from Pennsylvania at all, and that looking for an obit or death notice in a Pennsylvania newspaper throws the seeker off the scent?

I'm getting DoubleMeatWhopper flashbacks too.

This is looking suspiciously like the death of an alter-ego to me. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time. But that there has been no mention of the circumstances, and jason's research is throwing up no clues it's suspect.

Some of us remember an unpleasant incident involving the faked death of another member and I'm truly hoping (in a way) that this is not a similar situation. If we can confirm this member's passing then we can have his name (as the dead have no legal right to privacy) and find an obituary with arrangement information.

I believe you may be on to something for reasons I care not to divulge in public . You could always see if the IP addresses from both names are a match. Naturally this can be gotten around in a cunning manner but if someone is expecting the hoi polloi to believe the original claim they will not be that far-sighted !

This is both heart-breaking and so upsetting!

Just read the other thread with the email from Jeff... Dang the only word I noticed was a "get well" wish on his Profile page.

Say it ain't so!...

Tom, I hope you have just said goodbye... for now. Please, tell me that you have just retired the MetalPenguin name and have moved on, not passed on!

You were one of my first friends here, in the Chat room, on other sites, as well as on YahooIM... We had great jackin' chats, as well as sharing favorite sites and music, and sometimes intense talks about relationships, breakups, depression and our work.

I still have your Top Ten Rock list that you sent me a couple of years ago!

So weird that I re-read your last message to me yesterday, and wondered why you hadn't replied yet... I have been busy... And then I stumble upon this thread!

I really hope you are alive and well. I always enjoyed your company, man.

If We Could Bring You Back Again

If we could bring you back again,
For one more hour or day,
We’d express all our unspoken love;
We’d have countless things to say.

If we could bring you back again,
We’d say we treasured you,
And that your presence in our lives
Meant more than we ever knew.

If we could bring you back again,
To tell you what we should,
You’d know how much we miss you now,
And if we could, we would.

By Joanna Fuchs
