Peter Graves has died. Apparently from a heart attack. He was 82.

Not only did I enjoy his acting (made a huge impression in both Mission Impossible and Space 1999 - both of which appealed to my techie side), I had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a sincere, down-to-earth guy.

He was also great at comedy - Captain Oveur in Airplane!

Thanks for some great stuff, Mr. Graves.

(And to keep it LPSGish, thanks for being such a cool and sexy man!)

    RIP.
I have a feeling we wont need to conjure up theories for this one though. Good to see he lived a fuller life than the majority of the recent celebrity dead.

Sad news. He was a great lead in the Mission Impossible show, and then so funny in Airplane!, and I remember him doing biographies and other work back on A&E many years back.

As a child, I remember Peter Graves in the Saturday morning show "Fury" where he played the uncle. He was a great actor and human being.

Somehow I always associated him with Jim Garner, they both have that quiet, calm man's man demeanor, were from the midwest, athletic, and served in WWII. Graves was the younger brother of James Arness, star of Gunsmoke.

He was one of my favorites. "Do you like gladiator movies?"

I just saw that. I always loved his smooth dignity. SO, was the family name Arness or Graves?

The family surname was actually Aurness. James dropped the "u" and Peter changed his to Graves, which was their maternal grandfather's surname.

God bless him. Better leaving a full life than a short one.

Bummer, I've known Mr. Graves for the past 5 years through
my work in an eye clinic. He was an incredible Gentleman.
I'll miss him. Airplane! was classic.

RIP. But you know he really was 83, and would've been 84 this thursday.

RIP Mr. Graves I always enjoyed your performances. My partner never tires of me stepping out of the shower while he is shaving and saying... "Have you ever seen a grown man naked?"
