Rise in American militia groups

1. As noted in the article, there is now a specific individual (the President) upon whom to focus the bigotry and hatred that always existed towards (what before) were less specific targets. Obama, as President, can now be the personification of all those whom certain groups have always despised.
2. There is now a willingness to be more open about their existence, an openness encouraged by media "personalities", politicians, and other such individuals (and entities) who entertain, promote and endorse hate based ideology (in a variety of ways).
3. There is now an increased "alliance" (in thought, at least) of people to those groups - people who don't normally consider themselves bigots, but whose fear and paranoia are based on misinformation and mistrust, which is something that purveyors of hate exploit with such skill.
Now, Jason did make the valid observation that perhaps not all militias are "hate groups". I think for the purpose of the o.p. however, the above addresses those "militias" (and other organizations, black and white) whose beliefs are based on hate.

i say again, respectively, where in the dialog of the person in question and the op, did he say one thing about race? i caught a "people like him" which is very simular to a "these people"....which i heard come from your reply a time or two.

I'm not god or an elementary school math book, not my place or ability to tell you what you think/ opinion is wrong. But i can point out an unfairness on your part, simply by saying your fear and hatred of them is some how valid, and the fear and hatred you ASSUME they have toward our president because he black, is very unfair.

i was having the last of my internal operations at a military hospital the night mccain conceded, we got a live satellite feed and t-shirts, i got to hear from an un dumpable siginal, i heard the unkind things that were said about the president ellect, i layed on my back and sat on my ass and talkedon crutches and hobbled with a cane for weeks off to the constant sounds of t.v's playing fox or msnbc, and in 2 months, i heard people call the man many things, the ONLY! Racial slur i heard or even heard OF being uttered, was by former presidential candidate the rev jesse jackson.

my points through all of this have been these

1) militias are only as strong and capable as they need to be, and no one in this country needs for much in that regard

2) the man in the OP's story isn't the clandestine freedom fighter type. He was the guy who yelps the redneck maiting "WOO!" every 4th of july on his 14th beer when they start to light the fireworks they drove to alabama to get that morning. Unlike the convicted terrioristS in ACORN that our president is an open,avid supporter.... because its what he believes and it's his right

3) people dislike our president, people are afraid of our president and I
am people in this case.... its got nothing to do with the fact he's black, cause his mother and the rich old folks that raised him, were all white.

what scares me is that he has written (latterly) 300 times more booksthan he has laws, andin one of his books -dream?-, he lays down a reworded but identical draft as Marxs did in the 10 planks to establish a socialist government, now i am not complaing because i did in fact vote for the man.... but his total obsessive refusal to back off pushing government controled health care and to a much lesse degree government controled credit, scares me. the fact that "socialist is like calling some on the N WORD!".......I can't call the man something?..... THAT scares me.

It does have to do with race. If you're not a minority it's difficult for you to see how subtle racism can be. His mother came from an agrarian rural past. The Dunhams had no wealth. His grandparents had no wealth.

They simply cannot have it. They can disguise it with screaming rhetoric at Town Hall Meetings to their heart's content but THE MAN isn't in control and he doesn't like it. Most poor saps are prisoners to only what they have experienced first hand. This is a lesson I've learned by observation. Average Joe does not like progress or change.

A calm, articulate, considerate, capable, intelligent, non-reactionary man in the White House? WHAT??? It's beyond their scope of understanding. And (as in most things) that which they do not understand they must destroy.

I recall using the word "bigot" (not racist), and I stated that their focus on Obama is because he represents all that they despise, which is not necessarily referring to (or limited to) his race.

But for you to say the ONLY reason people are screaming at those meetings and are stammering to defend themselves is because he is BLACK?!
