Ok, here's the thing that bugs me, if it can't be him, then why have his ass out at all? Most hospital gowns today tie at the hip, so they wouldn't need to show ass anyway.

Also they could've shown his ass during that shower scene or any other scene. Praying s2 gives us nudity

Because it was funny.
it could still be funny without the butt
Mom: (rushes to the hospital to see her son before he dies)
Robbie: (about to be uploaded)
Mom: (finally gets there)
Robbie: (head explodes)
Mom: (screams her head off)

How isn't that funny

I did not say that the scene could not have possibly been funny without the butt.

I said the butt was funny.

That being said, the scene you described, of a mother witnessing her son's head exploding, really is ... inherently something that's hard to make funny. As typed out by you, it sounds like something out of a horror movie; it needed a bunch of elements to lighten it up to make the scene work as a comedy. They used a couple of different ways to do that in the actual show, and, yes, one of which is the butt.

I have, yes. Dark comedy doesn't just reproduce scenes from tragedy and expect you to laugh at it. It uses surprising, funny elements to highlight the absurdity of a tragic or dark moment, changing the tone to comedy in doing so.

One such element, for instance, would be a headless, naked body falling forward, ass on display.

no all dark comedy has nudity. I got a good joke

"Yo mama so crazy... she chloroformed her four-year-old, put her in the trunk of her car, and no one's heard of either of them since..."
