I don't know to be honest I feel very few superhero films actually need that R rating to be good. Also most toy manufacturing companies won't make things for film over PG-13 (like lego). And that often times help profits

The batman movies are pretty dark in general, I am actually surprised it isn't R... That being said, completely agree with you that, a less adult rating makes it more inclusive, and might help it reach a bigger audience.

batman however is not generally violent or graphic sexually etc... to be dark, Matt Reeves' Planet Of The Apes movies as two examples of dark, gritty PG-13 movies (and Batman has also been everything from Adam West to edgelord Frank Miller so... it's not really meant to be anything specifically)

That’s not the target audience for this movie though. DC’s pitfall in the past has been to tone down movies for the PG-13 rating to make it accessible to a broader audience, and it ends up being that their key demo are from millennials backwards, all of which are now grown adults who like their DC movies to be as dark and grown up as they’ve come to expect from this cinematic universe. Kids these days are not as interested in this type of movie as those who grew up with the other Batmans. And if they are, they’ll still go watch it regardless of the rating. That doesn’t mean as much as it used to in the past. And if we weren’t as puritanical as we are, we would’ve updated our rating system like most of Europe has and not be clutching pearls over some swear words and mild nudity.

Zack snyder's justice league was better not because of it's rating but because the storyline cohesive and that last director was prick and they wanted marvel humor.

Birds of prey bombed in theaters and failed to build everyone except Harley Quinn.

The suicide squad needed the violence (because that's what it's known for). But even then people were upset with some of characters death's being to early

Shazam and WW both well received PG-13 films

Joker- wasn't really inspired by dc comics (taking main inspiration from Taxi Driver). Nor is it supposed to work with In the DCEU (which is what they said about The Batman as well)

B v S extended cut still sucked and is only really known for the martha scene

Aquman was decent only bad thing was Amber Heards acting (but still did good for a pg-13 film)

Suicide Sqaud was a failed mess with behind the scenes drama.

But The Dark Knight still considered one of their best if not DC film. People were pissed it didn't get an Oscar nomination for best picture. The academy changed how many films could be nominated a given year because of their outrage (a pg-13 film)

Truth is DC issues aren't ratings it's because they rushed to try and have what MCU had, and they tried to emulate it in some ways and didn't work.

WTF, Suicide Squad is gooooood! And James Gunn is doing an AMAZING job in the Peacemaker series.

I didn't say suicide squad was bad. The only issue is that they killed off to many at the beginning, rather spread it out (special with a character like boomerang) could of killed some of it for parts middle act you know? As for Snyder's Justice league it's still better then the one that went theaters. (I don't care to see the snyderverse back)

I liked Harley Quinn but it didn't need an R rating you could take out the coke scene and the swears and it'd be the same film. Suicide Squad 2021 was exactly what a suicide squad movie should be, Aquaman and Shazam were fun, wonder woman 1984 was meh ww was pretty damn good.

Plenty of directors, particularly of this genre, have said in the past that rating places constraints on the story and creative process as to what can and cannot be part of the story. Like I said, the kids who want to see this movie won’t be stopped by its rating. And if they are too young, then this movie or anything with extreme violence is not for them anyway.
