Rocket fuel chemical found in baby formula

ATLANTA - Traces of a chemical used in rocket fuel were found in samples of powdered baby formula, and could exceed what's considered a safe dose for adults if mixed with water also contaminated with the ingredient, a government study has found.

The study by scientists at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looked for the chemical, perchlorate, in different brands of powdered baby formula. It was published last month, but the Environmental Working Group issued a press release Thursday drawing attention to it.The chemical has turned up in several cities' drinking water supplies. It can occur naturally, but most perchlorate contamination has been tied to defense and aerospace sites.

That twinge in your intestines
The article is stupid, unscientific, dimwitted chicken little alarmism at is most odious. What kind of perchlorate? Ammonium? Potassium? It doesn't say. Does it say anywhere that perchlorates are also used in thyroid medications? No. They just found a class of chemical compounds that few people are familiar with and publish this packet of false drama to see how many people they could throw a scare into.

Fuckwits. There are enough real threats in this life, not a lot of them, but enough that people don't need to go manufacturing more. The world is at once a safer and more dangerous place than most people have the guts to see it as. Open your eyes.
