Good thing, too...you can't really love anyone else until you learn to love yourself.

Very simple Jason_Els,
If it was a dominant gene there would be more gay than straight babies born and the species would be doomed to die out due to the lack of offspring being born.

Not quite that simple Dustydo,

It's commonly misunderstood that in genes, "dominant" means stronger, with "recessive" meaning weaker.

Genetically, "dominant" does not mean stronger. It simply means that if you possess that gene, it will be expressed, or "show". Recessive genes can be present, but hidden.

If there were such a thing as the "gay gene", and it was recessive, a person could possess that gene, and not express it. It could possibly be passed on and expressed in future generations.

If it were a dominant gene, then it gets even more confusing because since it is not phonetically (visually) expressed, even if they possessed the gene, a person could hide it out of shame or fear.

However, Back On Topic, (lol) I used to believe that it existed, now I would vote "Fiction".

Some people click. When they do, they'll click on certain aspects and to varying degrees, and their simpatico will persist for some amount of time...sometimes for a long while, other times not.

LMAO! You ain't gonna sell a whole bunch of cards, flowers, music, jewelry, etc with those words!

Answer to OP: fiction

Fact. Can't be arsed arguing it tho - plus it may evolve after a while into different things - trust, companionship, teamwork...

I am currently experiencing romance in my life, so for me it is a fact. I would assume if you have not experienced it or don't have the capacity to experience it you would say it's fiction. Romance is reciprocal; Have you ever heard the phrase "It takes two to tango?"

Fact. I think everybody has been starry eyed over another at one point in their lives.

The question is sustainability. Without respect, trust and compatibility love will erode.

Hey Starry eyes,

It happens to me and continues to happen. However there are limits when you're married and have kids.

I enjoy some people's company.

If there is a gay gene, or more likely, genes - and I suspect that there is - it/they must also confer some kind of evolutionary advantage or it/they would have been purged from the genome.

Try adding respect, devotion, adoration, care, fostering etc etc and may be these will add up to something that we don't have to "believe" in.

Let me see if I have this right: Romantic love is a self-indulgent ruse employed by one for a limited duration designed to get another person to submit to being used sexually by another for one's own self-gratification. If the person being used is deemed sexually satisfactory after the initial conjoining, they can be considered for further use. If they can be tolerated beyond sexual use, and there is further continuance of personal involvement between the two; this might fall under that idealistic, oft-used, and sanctified term—"romantic love."

Isn't it romantic?
