Romney: 47 percent of voters are “dependent on government"

Mi*&*^ strikes again:
Bits and pieces of a private fundraiser held by Mitt Romney have been leaked to Mother Jones magazine, exposing some blunt talk from the Republican candidate on voters, his campaign and American society.

one video, Romney argues that it’s not “my job” to win over the 47 percent of voters committed to President Obama, because they are “dependent on government” and he will “never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

^This. A disaster!

Who wants an elitist President who thinks that half of Americans are bums? Does he really have their interests at heart? A decent President cares about the people.

Sadly, Romney is correct concerning the huge income gap. Ironically, the GOP created these millions of poor citizens with policies that favored the rich at the expense of the poor (and middle class who became poor after they couldn't carry the burden any longer), and now it's backfiring on them.

And lets get real, you'd never hear Obama say shit like this. He has a long history of working with the poor and disenfranchised.

I am not a fan of Mr. Romney, but he raises a very important point about the state of our democracies. Dandelion may disagree, but our last labour party nearly destroyed the UK. Everything that went wrong happened under their last watch, only their mothers could possibly think that it was someone else's fault.

One year out from the general election, everyone expected a landslide for the Conservatives, but as the poll approached it became clear that it hung in the balance and indeed we ended up with a coalition government.

Quite simply, when you have a system with nearly 50% of people on welfare at some level or another, they can not vote for anyone who may threaten that system.

The Repubs and Cons need to find a new way to package this because it is very easy for a bureaucratic left wing government to keep taking money away from the "winners" (boo hiss) and give it (inefficiently) to the downtrodden poor (hooray). Sorry for the pantomime, but that is what it is beginning to look like.

Personally I think that the answer is in job creation, even at low wages, and higher thresholds for no tax. I do also think that the US middle class does not pay enough tax.

First of all, that would be: they're right, and second: I think you missed the point the mod was making..let Mitt's lame incendiary words speak for themselves, no need to flame the inflamed.

Epic fail on Romney today. Epic.

Epic fail for Srdude007....
and As far as I know, proper grammar is not required to post here. So thanks for being a grammar Nazi...

And entitlements are a detriment to this country, which was built on hard work and not wealth re-distribution. You can call it something else, but when you take more money (%) from one group, to give to another, it can only be called the re-distribution of wealth.

Furthermore, Mitt Romney's 15% in paid taxes (seems to be the agreed upon % rate he paid in income taxes according to his tax releases) , account for much more money ($$$$) than the entire combined tax burden for all in this thread. (I know, wild statement, but I'm pretty sure it's true). Now you may feel that he needs to pay more because he's too rich, but that's YOUR opinion and he doesn't owe you a damn thing. And that is not even factoring in the payroll taxes that his companies have paid over the last decades, which probably add up to a ridiculous amount of $$.

It looks like the neocons are going to deflect this issue or somehow blame Obama. The facts haven't changed, however. Romney clearly stated that half of Americans are bums and he needs to explain this statement ASAP.

Or there needs to be a larger middle class. Fair taxation and credit control can give buying power back the middle class: "The game was rigged"

Stop complaining and get to work.... or you will fall even further behind. Or are you expecting some kind of trophy just for being born? Your way of thinking is completely opposite of our predecessors who took personal responsibility and created for themselves....

BTW.... Romney never called them bums.... only entitled.... as in, "give me money I didn't earn, I don't care if it comes from someone who worked for it, they are rich anyways and don't need it, don't deserve it, stole it from me."

Improper grammar may not be, but personal attacks are against the rules.

And how can we know about Romney's tax returns when he refuses to release them, except one or two good-enough ones?
And your comments tell me that you really don't understand the relationship between US government, class and power that has been at work to keep certain groups of people disenfranchised for generations. It isn't all about lazy people who want a handout.

By the way, there are a lot of poor people who work much harder than the wealthy in America. In fact, wealthy Americans are probably the most lazy group, those trust funds and capital gains and all...

Please elaborate.... I fail to see how your statement holds any truth.

Your quoting of the 99% is a broad generalization that includes a large populous who want nothing to do with you entitlement mentality. I have a very good understanding of Government, US or otherwise, and your simple attempt to discredit me is not worth darn in my eyes. We are talking about a growing welfare society that if allowed to grow un-checked, will end the American dream for all of us who are WILLING to work for it. What incentive do I have to excel and succeed in life, if people like you want to take a vast majority of my earnings and give it to those who simply expect it, and believe it's their right to receive their share of my income.

If we continue on this trend, we will soon reach a point of no return.

You may not know this, but that 15% doesn't include his tithing or donations. Just going by donations, I've heard about 14-15% of his income goes to donations. So that's about 25-30% of his money he's giving away.

A common trend for the wealthy who take advantage of tax deductions for donations to charitable organizations. But I'm sure this thread will begin to vilify any man who feels he can better distribute his wealth as a tax-deductible donation, than the government could if they collected that money as tax.

Thank you for adding that by the way... most people fail to realize how much the rich actually give to the charities of their choice. (maybe for selfish, tax reasons, but that's not the point).
