The process is called vetting. Most people dislike the process because it's messy and they don't want things to be discovered. Sorta like our current president.

Lets see what happens.

Bullshit. "Vetting" is what a political party does before a candidate announces. Like, nobody mentioned that Santorum might have a problem with the late-term abortion his wife had while he was campaigning to ban late-term abortions. Or the problems he will have with his K-Street connections.

"Vetting" is a process in which a political party says, "Fuck you" to an unqualified candidate. Apparently the Republicans don't vet any more.

Really. His wife had an abortion? I would think this would create a contradiction.
Not terribly surprised so many republicans have sympathy for Santorum he loves to talk a lot about their favorite obsessions.

The primaries are also a vetting process by the people.

Public votes frequently only allow people to choose between a few people already selected by those in power. It isnt a choice, there isnt even a veto. Its a rubber stamp.

Now Ron Paul is giving Romney a run for his money in Maine. How does this guy think be can beat Obama if he can't even get Republicans to like him?

Santorum surges into the lead - Public Policy Polling

Riding a wave of momentum from his trio of victories on Tuesday Rick Santorum has opened up a wide lead in PPP's newest national poll. He's at 38% to 23% for Mitt Romney, 17% for Newt Gingrich, and 13% for Ron Paul.
I don't expect that Santorum's place at the top of the polls will last any longer than the previous turns taken by most of the other non-Romney candidates, but I must confess that if someone had suggested to me a month ago that Santorum would have his turn as the leading Republican candidate, I would have said, "No way. Republican voters can be pretty stupid, but they're not THAT stupid!" Wrong again.

If Santorum is (somehow) elected, I suggest we ALL make sure our passports are current.

Santorum is in his temporary moment of glory just like many others have already had. The only thing his winning the nomination would do is give us a closet homosexual in the run for the White House. Against Obama he stands less of chance than anybody else.

I think this could be Hickboy's year. If he ran as the "Not Romney" and timed it right and peaked just before the convention, we could well have the 2012 Republican candidate amoung us.

I too would love to see Santorum win the Republican nomination. I really dislike Romney and Santorum is so much more beatable in the general election.

You are not the first person to make that suggestion.

Hickboy for President?

I don't know how you Americans can stand your system. 2 years of fighting in government and then 2 years of election. Our elections last about 6 weeks from start to finish.

Back when Santorum remarked that the repeal of DADT was about "special privileges" for gays, I said that he had lost the vote of every thinking American.

Now that he's surged ahead in the polls, I still don't revise what I said.

Just my estimation of Americans.

Yes it is somewhat difficult to understand the appeal of the Republican candidates. They relentlessly promote an agenda to stop granting and even perhaps start withdrawing who has the rights conferred by the First amendment. It's sad so many people want to support elected officials who promise to perpetuate persecuting second class citizens.
What truly kills me is their claim their rights are being violated if someone else has these rights.

Here's what the First amendment says: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press, or the right of people peaceably to assemble, and petition the Government for redress of grievances.

The Conservatives are urging Gingrich to pull out. Romney needs Gingrich in the race to split the anti-Romney vote. Funny how politics work sometimes. Santorum is leading Romney Nationally and in Michigan, Romney's other home state. If Gingrich were to drop out of the race, Romney may very well be done. A brokered convention would be fun too, though.
