That's too good. I can't stop laughing from this, even though it's no laughing matter. It's just so blatantly true.

I think it's very sad ... Roseanne was a great American artist and responsible for maybe the best sitcom ever. I didn't mind that she respectfully represented a Trump voter in her new show ... after all they are 46% of America.

But now she's probably going to turn to right-wing media for her platform, and consequently become a right-wing icon. Her future projects will probably sound as if they're written by Rush Limbaugh.
It's difficult to imagine anyone would think she is a great American artist or that her sitcom was perhaps the best ever. She delivers a comic line better than many, and that's about all the credit I think she deserves. Let's get real here. And frankly, I hope she disappears for good this time. She's been given adulation and financial rewards few ever get, and she still walks around with a sour mouth, and a face that looks like someone next to her just farted. I think she's a swine, truthfully.

I just remembered another reason this whole "Roseanne and the rest of the Trump supporters are so patriotic!" bullshit gets under my skin.

She did this to our national anthem:

Yet, people *just *like *her are now saying that Colin Kaepernick is a disgrace to our troops for silently taking a knee?

Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit. It's not about the troops, they just want black people to shut up and accept the racism.

I wouldn't call it the best ever, but it was the #1 rated television show for two years (not just sitcoms, but for all TV as a whole this was the most watched show). John Goodman, Rosanne Barr, and Laurie Metcalf were routinely nominated for Emmies / Golden globe for acting.

Rosanne took the fall for that, but everyone knew she couldn't sing when she was asked to sing the anthem. I think MBL thought it would be better received than it was and Rosanne took all the blame.

America the Beautiful is a thousand times better anthem than the Star Spangled Banner anyways :p I wish they'd swap it...

The mob viewership is such an intelligent and discriminating audience...

Oh, and as for ‘John Goodman, Rosanne Barr, and Laurie Metcalf were routinely nominated for Emmies / Golden globe for acting’, hilarious: Emmy nominating commitees and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts are just always spot-on as judges of artistic accomplishment and performance.

Laissez moi rire.

You don't think John Goodman's acting in particular on Rosanne was noteworthy?

She deserved a whole lot of that blame. She didn't just butcher it because she couldn't sing and knew it, she spit on the field to INTENTIONALLY "disrespect the anthem". She wasn't this big "Patriot" until the Trump era.

And to be clear, IDGAF about anthems or holidays etc. Trump, and his ever-loyal supporters *pretend to....When it supports their political agenda.

I'd bet that twenty years from now, if Kaepernick apologized for taking a knee, Trump and his ilk would still hold it against him and call him a national disgrace. Maybe I'm wrong. I kinda doubt it though.

I fully believe her that her crotch grab and spit were attempts to mockingly impersonate a baseball player (who have been walking stereotypes in their propensity to adjust their junk and spit tobacco).

The crotch grab is cropped from your video, but you can sort of see her gesture at 1:10 mark. In the full video she's clearly grabbing her crotch and shaking it like she's adjusting a dick. Spitting can be a gesture of disrespect, but if that was her intent, what would the crotch grab have been about? No one adjusts their junk as a sign of disrespect.

They even sold Big league chew at little league games so you could pretend to chew tobacco like the pros.

TBH that never crossed my mind.. but I stand by my point. If she hadn't come out in support of Trump, and was calling him on his shit... he'd likely use the clip to smear her just like he does everyone else who doesn't blindly follow him.

I myself wasn't saying she still needs to be ridiculed over it (even though I did say she deserved the blame at the time) I'm just calling out the hypocrisy.

Absolutely. We have no disagreement at all about the kind of man Trump is.

I absolutely agree with you, but writers and performers often do not consider the possibility that there’s more than one construction/interpretation likely or possible by the audience.

Interesting that the White House finds racism, along with the endless hateful comments by Trump, less offensive. But, make an inappropriate comment about the Princess Ivanka...the wrath of the self-righteous right is unleashed. I don’t condine what was said. Howeve, this corrupt family is the source of their dislike and need to be removed ASAP. If you want equal punishment, start with the troll in the White House or STFU.

There was a point raised about this in a National Review article (yes I know the source). Not Samantha Bee specifically, but about the mess this is going to cause in regards to calls for retribution for the stuff people are saying. Note article doesn't say firing Rosanne was the wrong thing to do (it says hiring her in the first place was).

Rosanne and the High Cost of Embracing Craziness

Third, hypocrisy and double standards abound. So, where are the lines for acceptable speech? Even now, Twitter is lighting up with examples of progressive celebrities saying terrible things and keeping their jobs. ESPN is expanding Keith Olbermann’s role at the network despite a Twitter feed full of hysterical, profane insults and unhinged commentary. Fire one celebrity and you can dredge up six more who’ve posted their own deranged rants. At the same time, does the Right really want to turn Roseanne into a poster child of political persecution? We all know that progressives get more grace than conservatives, but where does Roseanne fit? We’re left with a mess. To argue that companies should err on the side of free speech — as I do all the time — is not to argue that companies can’t have any standards at all.

You can debate whether the sitcom is an art form, but Roseanne was certainly one of its masters. Lots of other people have said this, but her show was the first to portray middle-American, working-class people as fully rounded, complicated humans beings. Every previous show I can think of clearly invited a presumably more sophisticated audience to laugh at the characters, rather than with them. The best thing about it is was that the characters didn't end every episode happy, their problems solved and spouting some cliches about how love conquers all, or if we work hard we can do anything. Roseanne acknowledged sadness and failure in American life. Earlier shows had sort of flirted with this (Taxi, Cheers maybe), but Roseanne went the furthest.

So much bullshit about Roseanne being the first television program to portray working class people being thrown around.

I grew up in the 70s & 80s with the following shows which featured working class characters and settings.

Good Times
Alice
Sanford & Son
One Day at a Time
Welcome Back Kotter

to some degree Cheers was a working class cast... Sam Malone wasn't getting rich off of the revenue from the bar, arguably baseball players didn't get paid as much back then as they do now. There are more but those were the shows that I watched.

Alice was sooooooooo fucking groundbreaking, the show gets NO fucking credit. It was even based on a critically acclaimed Scorsese film but still gets no love... even fucking Mel was poor.
