Was looking at this vintage Road & Track page (1975). At the time everyone thought all future cars would have a rotary engine. Like the Chevy Monza was going to, but got V8s instead. So, maybe they have got it all wrong with electric cars? :innocent:

Rotary engines make a lot of horsepower from a small displacement, but are notoriously unreliable and horribly inefficient. The Mazda RX-7 is probably the best-known car with a rotary engine.

They were very thirsty, but by the time the RX7 came along, they were generally reliable. That's why they avoided bringing the turbo to America, to protect the improving reliability rep.
