Murdoch is an interesting study of contradictions in some ways. He preaches conservatism and is opposed to most things dealing with sexuality in any form as most conservatives are. At the same time NEWSCORP which he owns is the largest single publisher of pornography in the world. Murdoch claims conservative traditional family values constantly and yet at the same time shows which air on the FOX network include but are not limited to: The Simpsons which is a hallmark of a completely dysfunctional family life portrayed in such a manner as to make it seem acceptable, they have Family Guy which portrays along with the character of Homer Simpson the average American Father as an absolute moron. Then there is the worst of them all which is "American Dad" which tries to make an ultra-right winger look stupid which is an insult to Murdoch himself.

The people who respect Fox do not understand the one thing that is the underlying theme for anything and everything Murdoch touches. The only thing this man lives for is more money and more power. He has proved that by controlling what news people get you can then control public opinion. Murdoch does not run for political office because he can do far more to gain even more money and more power by doing exactly what he is doing right now.

Murdoch has his two things of worship and those are his power and his money and we have finally seen the beginning of a hairline crack that would have the ability to take down a very dangerous empire. I have extreme doubts that it will ever be seen because he will buy whomever he needs to eliminate any investigation or threat with regards to similar activities taking place in the United States as compared to the U.K..

He is crashing a very lucrative publications to make himself look like the one thing he isn't and that is a "good guy". The only reason he would crash one thing is to as most billionaires do make the loss of that publication into one giant "tax-write-off" and he will replace it with something that makes even more money and have the taxpayers pick up the tab. As a human being he is completely amoral. As a businessman and as a generator for profit at all costs he is a genius.

He will succeed as long as his methods remain under cover. You can bet where he is throwing money and what he is looking at right now with regards to corporate security.

The big thing is how today Rupe was standing by Rebekah Brooks like she was a friggin messiah, the most important and brilliant thing is the world. I wonder what she knows about him or his family... because Murdoch is the kind of cold ruthless bastard who would throw anyone to the dogs for his benefit.
Well now that is not necessarily true, In his position, if there is someone you feel you really can trust, it might be very foolish to lose them. He might be runningout of allies within the company.

Or, you can only throw someone to the wolves once, so best save it for the most advantageous moment

So now the decision to claw back sky news (rather than surrender control of it as a condition of the BSkyB takeover). It has been suggested as a deliberate attempt to force the UK government to refer his takover to the monopolies commission and thereby delay matters until the fuss blows over. This might be true, but it could possibly be a greater admission that the deal is now off, so no need to throw away something else. Or, it has been suggested, an alternative might be to jettison all the newspapers which are a decaying market and keep hold of the broadcast news service and growing satellite area.

That's a fair point. This is why I'd make a crappy evil media mogul :frown1:

Oh this is fun. Parliament can so seldom agree on anything that it usually does nothing. Now they all feel it is the most advantageous thing to go after the murdochs.

So they are dusting down the lawbooks!. No one seems to know exactly what the procedure is for pariament to summon people to attend. However, after some hunting they seem to agree that first they ask nicely. Then they issue a warrant. The seargeant at arms can then coopt the police to drag someone before the house. If the person fails to cooperate then they can charge him with contempt, find him guilty and fine or imprison him. I would suspect the fines/imprisonment are probably open ended.

They just said no one had been forced to attend since about 1950. No one had been fined since 1600 odd. Wonder if we will get to the imprisonment bit?

The Uk parliament is a funny place. Would not surprise me if they still have torture on the books for getting information out of people. Just the sort of rule no one would have bothered updating. So maybe right now they are looking for the instructions for the rack and thumbscrews and writing some safety assessments to make sure anyone using them on a prisoner will be able to do so perfectly safely.

Meanwhile, did I hear Rebekah Brooks has resigned? Yesterday someone was arguing Rupert is too old for another comeback. The US seem to be nibbling at his toes pending the results of UK investigations.

They're dropping like flies now. Or perhaps rats jumping from a sinking ship each with enormous golden parachutes would be a better (shite) metaphor. I'm not hopeful of any real justice being done.

I've had enough of Murdoch and his crap.

Looks like the shit hit the fan.

I think if anything like this happened in America the masses would be out with pitchforks and torches, and they're would be more than simple resignations. Heads would definitely roll. How complacent everything in Britain seems to be. Where is the public outrage? Are they so jaded and beaten down that these things don't matter to them. Or are we just not getting the whole story from the US news media. Fox news? lol.

Well the top two police officers in the metropolitain police (ie London police) have now both resigned. One of them very pointedly remarked that if he had to resign because he had taken on an ex news of the world journalist to work for the police, why did the prime minister not have to resign because he had done the same. Cameron is still spluttering. This has undeniably harmed him.

Dissolution of parliament for the summer has been delayed for a day so they can continue talking about it. We are still looking forward to the murdochs et all appearing before parliament, though lots of people are suggesting we may simply get a lot of referring the matter to their lawyers.

I think the people may just be sitting back to watch the politicians and the journalists slug it out.
