Or how about a muslim terrorist went to an elementary school and killed 20 children? The 5th fleet would be on a war footing and already striking targets. Stealth bombers would be enroute and the Army preparing to deploy. But instead since he wasn't muslim what the fuck happened? NOTHING.
So, why hasn't the president done something? He is commander in chief of the armed forces. He can mobilize the military at a moment's notice.

He already has mobilized the military..
Remember? 3 years ago? He said "The War on Terror" is over?
He changed it to "Overseas Contingency Operation"
Remember when the "Tuesday Morning Assasin Lists Breakfasts" stories came out? When Obama picked which names on the list would be taken out by a drone the following week? I wonder, how many of them were in the closet?

I've had difficulty before now being able to offered anything by way of political commentary on this heinous act in Orlando, in large part because of feelings just thinking of it caused. It was something that (physically) manifested itself as a lump in the back of the throat, as if some scream or something welling up from within.

And the cause of it (I think) was a combination of things: sadness, mixed with frustration, and ANGER. Yep... anger.

Not only because of yet AGAIN another loss of lives - of family, friends, and loved ones to yet ANOTHER senseless act of HATE... but also in part because I KNEW the complete BULLSHIT that would SURELY follow from the USUAL bunch of deniers and dismisser of the very THOUGHS and IDEOLOGIES that give rise to, nourish, and in VARIOUS ways, LEGITIMIZE bigotry and hate...

...knew that the usual sorts would rise up to deflect from those REAL causes of such atrocities to tell use how it wasn't an attack upon [who/what was really being attacked] but how it actually was an "attack upon (someone/something) else.

...knew that that very sorts who've courted, abided by, and defended hate based, bigoted ideology and demagoguery would be here to tell us how someone or something ELSE is to blame... some even attempting to gain political mileage out of it while they escape culpability via the USUAL sidestepping of certain issues and the directing of focus elsewhere.

... and knew that, like before, we'd get the same old song and dance about how guns don't kill people.

Some in this thread have tried to do likewise. As IF by banning people on the basis of their faith, race, or country of origin we'd be able to BAN the kind of mindset, the ideals, the THOUGHTS that give rise to these acts. As if the hate ISN'T home grown and here already. After all, if you focus the blame elsewhere, then you don't really have to FACE UP to the kind of S**** we do and say HERE that give safe haven to HATE.

We (many of us) have spoken of it before in various threads re. the many ways it manifests itself within our society. But no... such discussions are dismissed by the deniers as just so much "politically correct" bullshit, and we're just "baiters" and "social justice" bleeding heart activists conjuring up that which doesn't exist.

"Politically correct..." They love that word. THEIR way of saying ANY consideration of the needs, lives, liberties, dignity, and FEELINGS of others is either not a VALID concern, or in the least, is somehow disingenuous.

Smoke and mirror BULLSHIT, that results in NOTHING changing.
The value I place on Republican Congressmen and their sympathies and moments of silence is worth less than a counterfeit quarter. It's bad enough that some running for President condemned gays until this tragedy happened and they saw a photo op and a chance to look less evil but just two weeks prior to that day this happened.....

With all of their "sadness" and "aching hearts" will that now mean they will stop trying to pass laws protecting them from discriminating based on sexual orientation or will they be back to their old tricks after enough time has passed?

If only those kids had their own AR 15, this would not happen.

Absolutely fucking right. Pass out the pistols at the beginning of school then collect them at the end of the day. Just like this...

Anytime something jumps off teach the kids how to aim and shoot the bad guys just like in the cartoons.

Orlando is not a gun issue. Don’t let anti-gun politics miss lead you. If the political anti-gun group was actually interested in saving lives they would ban (and enforce the ban) on use of cell phones in moving cars. Cell phone usage is now linked to nearly one half of all auto accidents in the US.

Save the gun argument for another day and don’t allow it to hide what happened in Orlando. The tragedy could have occurred with a Boston style bomb, explosives in a truck, or rupture to a gas main.

Hate is what happened in Orlando. The question is how was it created and what can be done to prevent its reoccurred.

Nope. You're wrong. Guns are very much a part of the problem. They are not the only part, but they are a part and it needs to be dealt with. Too many people who are unfit to own weapons can get them - that needs to change. Yes people will still use guns to commit crimes, yes someone who was carefully vetted once can years later jump the tracks, yes there are other ways to kill people when you really want to do that (Tim McVeigh comes to mind), but it is too damn easy to get a gun and start blasting away. If we value life we have an obligation to find reasonable solution - it can be done.

Cell phones are regulated in many states when people are driving Is it enough, probably not but even though phone companies spent a lot to stop it, progress was made. Still no one can run out, and kill someone on purpose with a cell phone. It is a poor comparison to gun violence.

BUT why do people like you INSIST that they have the most free and easy access to the weapons they WANT to choose to carry out these crimes?

Time after time they choose AR-15 style rifles with high capacity magazines. why does that not mean anything to you?

You always act like is just some odd coincedence that their number. one choice is killing power is the same type of weapon and you have "no idea" why they choose what they choose.

I want them relegated to there 3rd or 4th choice.

How do you even know the build in question had Natural gas service? Even if it did you can not just go in a rupture a gas line and then mere seconds later set of a deadly explosion.

You can not just go down to your corner store and buy explosives or a "boston style bomb" that is complete, ready to be used and GUARANTEED TO WORK.

In addition to those very deadly AR's they had in San Bernidino they had some of those IED's they had been making and guess what they were DUDS.

You have to get all the parts and some of those parts are a little difficult to come by, you certainly can not just walk into your average Wal-Mart or Target and buy C-4, det cord or fuses and/or blasting caps.

I want them to have to buy what ever "on the street" in some shady back alley where they might end up with some old non opertational POS or maybe they just get robbed, instead of just walking into a gun shop or a gun show and plunking down the right amount of cash and walking out with a brand new guaranteed to work killing machine and be all set to go kill dozens in seconds. I want to make them re-load or a should say TRY to reload after every 10 rounds knows that most of them are not Navy seals that can do it in like a second but more like Loftner in Tuscon who proved that he he could not.

When it comes right down to it you are not going to do anything about the hate, you just are not but we can make it a little or maybe a lot more than a little bit more difficult for the haters to do anything about it.

They haven't stopped nor will they. Because in order for that to happen they'd have to realize and ADMIT to the part THEY'VE played in fostering an environment of hate: Teachings, thoughts, and ideals that have gained an ever INCREASING level of acceptance in American society - whereby even in our schools and homes some are ostracized, bullied, and/or marginalized JUST for being "different."

A society in which merely RECOGNIZING the needs, feelings, concerns, and RIGHTS of others, is sneered at and DENOUNCED as so much "political correctness."

The Levi character and all the rest of the :"hey will always find a way" crowd

No, some maybe a LOT of them WON"T
Oh, ok, I'm was just checking if you were talking to RedDick. When someone gets blocked and someone you haven't blocked continues to talk with the blocked guy, the replies don't shot up, so it appears like a conversation between a man and his schizophrenia.
