There are only two songs i ever get choked up with, and a few times i even shed a few tears:

The GreenFields of France - Dropkick Murphys (about world war 1 and the irishmen who died, similiar to the cranberries zombie... only better)
Serious, sad song from a silly punk band. Great musicianship, but i get choked up everytime i hear it.

Where Oh where Can my bay be - Can't Remember(not pearljam!)
Everyone knows what this song is about!
-- This song only really effected me after i met my current fiance. We too like to go for joy rides in my car, and the idea of this happening makes me cry, or atleast gives me chills.

    What do you think?

What are some songs that get to you?

You know, I was going to say Purple Rain or even Another Lonely Christmas...

But the winner, hands down is:

    Sometimes It Snows In April

The title and the imagery and the metaphor is just amazing. Here are the lyrics:

Tracy died soon after a long fought civil war
Just after I wiped away his last tear
Guess he's better off than he was before
A whole lot better off than the fools he left here

I used to cry for Tracy
Cos he was my only friend
Those kind of cars don't pass you every day

I used to cry for Tracy
Cos I wanted to see him again
    But sometimes, sometimes...
    Life ain't always the way

    Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
    Sometimes I wish
    That life was neverending
    All good things, they say
    Never last
    All good things, they say
    Never last
    And love, it isn't love
    Until it's past

Also, Abraham, Martin and John by Marvin Gaye is quite sad.

The Ballad of Lucy Jordan - Marianne Faithful
On My Own - Michael McDonald & Patti Labelle
Goodbye to You - Michelle Branch
The End of the World - Skeeter Davis
    Don't Speak - No Doubt

Songs that get me choked up (or sometimes shed a tear)

It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday- Boys to Men
Nothing compares to U- Sinead O'Connor
    True Colors - Cyndi Lauper
    Angel - Sarah MacLachlan

and this is in the movie Imitation of Life, but the song that Mahalia Jackson sings at the funeral always make tears run down (I think the name of the song is "Thy Will be Done", or something in that order). That is the only song that will make me shed tears every time.

    Lyin' Eyes- Eagles
    Dreamboat Annie- Heart
    Angel- Sarah MacLachlan
    Hands to Heaven- Breathe
    Must have been love- Roxette
    I Like Dreamin'- Kenny Nolan
Nothing Compares to U- Sinead O'Connor
The Way I Am- Merle Haggard
If Wishes Came True- Sweet Sensation

There's dozens more. I like sad music. Sad music for a sad guy, I guess.

OK, I'm the winner -- "A Minor Incident" by Badly Drawn Boy.

It's about a mom's goodbye letter to her son before committing suicide. I cry every time I hear or see it.

    - - - -

There's nothing i could say to make you try to feel ok
And nothing you could do to stop me feeling the way i do
And if the chance should happen that i never see you again
Just remember that i'll always love you

I'd be a better person on the other side i'm sure
You'd find a way to help yourself
    And find another door
    To shrug off minor incidents
And Make us both feel proud

I just wish I could be there to see you through

You always were the one to make us stand out in a crowd
Though every once apon a while your head was in a cloud
There's nothing you could never do to ever let me down
And remember that I'll always love you

I thought of another, one I acutally covered(recordered) a few days ago.

It sums up the way i feel about my current situation:

Time in a bottle - Jim Croce.

And Jim Croce in himself is a very sad person.

He signed a bad record deal and died sad and poor. One of the saddest things that could happen to a musician is for their heartfelt music to be exploited, like his was.

Sad song, and I cry thinking about the circumstances of his life.

BTW* My sig is a part of Time in a bottle, by Mr. Croce.

So many sad songs, but this one hits me hard.

YouTube: Hanging by a Thread by Jann Arden

When I cry, I close my eyes
And every tear falls down inside
And I pray with all my might
That I will find my heart in someone's arms

    When I cry, cry
When I cry, when I am sad
I think of every awful thing I ever did

When I cry, there is no love
No, there is nothing that can comfort me enough
    When I cry
    Cry, cry

    (chorus)

The salt inside my body ruins
    Everyone I come close to
My hands are barely holding up my head

Oh, I'm so tired of looking at my feet
And all the secrets that I keep
My heart is barely hangin' by a thread
    Hangin' by a thread

    Oh, look at me
    At all I've done
I've lost so many things that I so dearly love
    I lost my soul
    I lost my pride
Oh, I lost any hope of having a good life
    So I cry
    Cry, cry

    (chorus)

    I miss you all
    I wish I was
    With you now
    I wish I was
