Monstro, actually, I saw you had named it but I did not notice you had posted it. Thanks for the compliment on musical taste. I try. Any others you like?
Dave

Thanks, whatever the circumstances, it was really thoughtful of you to look for the video and post it.

I like all sorts of stuff. Mainly listen to classical these days, but you never know otherwise. But I look forward to seeing what you'll post next!

And speaking of sad songs, I'm sure somebody's mentioned Frank Sinatra. He has an album called "No One Cares" and when listening to it I just want to pat him on the back and exort, "Ava was crazy, Frank. She's not worth it! C'mon, let's go to Vegas."*

*No disrespect intended to the fabulous Ms. Gardner. That's just the sort of things guys say when we're trying to cheer somebody up

LOL! What a great story, Monstro! A funny thing happened right before Frank died. For about two months, I had the biggest urge to read every thing I could get my hands on about the man.(Maybe it was a sign) In his autobiography, he admitted to being bi-polar. He said if he had been treated, he probably never would have left Nancy senior (who never got over him leaving her) and probably would not have started the Rat Pack. Because his manic side came to the forefront so often, he never went to bed and so in order to pass the time, he surrounded himself with his buddies. They smoke, drank and womanized along with creating a phenom never to be repeated, probably.

Jackson Browne (What a cutie!) and David Lindley playing "For a Dancer." The story goes that this song was written about the death in a bathhouse fire of one of Jackson's friends. In an unofficial biography of Jackson, the friend is described as having been bisexual.

That's fascinating, Naughty. Now that you mention it, that makes a lot of sense--I can totally hear that in Frank's music. It was either real swinging and happy or totally down in the dumps and morose. Are you sure it was his autobiography, though? I didn't think he had written one.

There's a really good biography of Ava Gardner that I read a few months ago. If you haven't read it you should, I think you'd really like it.

It has been a while I wish I could remember the name of the book I read but he did say that.

I tend to put sad songs out of my mind after I don't hear them for a while...but right now, the one that gets me most is "Who Knew" by Pink.

The song is kind of ambiguous if the person she's singing about is dead, or if they've broken up. However, I first heard the song right after a friend I loved very much passed away and immediately associated it with him.

I first heard the song on the album -- before it became a single -- and now it's played every 5 minutes. I tear up now every time I hear it (if I can't change the station...).

If I Ever Leave This World Alive

If I ever leave this world alive
I'll thank for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll come back down and sit beside your
feet tonight
Wherever I am you'll always be
More than just a memory
If I ever leave this world alive

If I ever leave this world alive
I'll take on all the sadness
That I left behind
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So in a word don't shed a tear
I'll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive

So when in doubt just call my name
Just before you go insane
If I ever leave this world
Hey I may never leave this world
But if I ever leave this world alive

She says I'm okay; I'm alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right

She says I'm okay; I'm alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right
Yeah should be alright

Ive always thought the lyrics to this song were really sad. Its about being ashamed of your Mother then regretting it when she dies.

YouTube - I'm Living In Shame- Diana Ross&The Supremes-1969

Im living in shame - Diana Ross & the Supremes.

Mama was cookin' bread
She wore a dirty raggedy scarf around her head
Always had her stockings low
Rolled to her feet just didn't know
She wore a sloppy dress
Oh no matter how she tried she always looked a mess
Out of the pot she ate
Never used a fork or a dinner plate
I was always so afraid that
The uptown friends would see her
Afraid one day when I was grown
That I would be her
In college town away from here
A new identity I found
That I was born elite
With maids and servants at my feet
I must have been insane
I lied and said mama died on a weekend trip to Spain
She never got out of the house
Never even boarded a train
Married a guy, was living high

I didn't want him to know her
she had a grandson two years old
That I never even showed her
I'm living in shame
Mama, I miss you
I know you're not to blame
Mama, I miss you

Got a telegram
Mama passed away while making home made jam
before she died she cried to see me by her side
She always did her best
Ah cooked and cleaned and always in the same old dress
Working hard, down on her knees
Always trying to please
Mama, mama, mama can you hear me
Mama, mama, mama can you hear me
I'm living in shame
Mama, I miss you
I know you've done your best
Mama, I miss you
Won't you forgive me mama
For all the wrong I've done
I know you've done your best
Oh I know you've done the very best you could
Mama I thought you understood
Working hard, down on your knees

It makes me so sad I couldn't listen past the first few seconds. I only listened to those few seconds to make sure I had the right song. It will bring you to tears.

Kansas- "Dust In The Wind" LOL

I close my eyes
only for a moment
and the moment's gone
all my dreams
pass before my eyes a curiosity
dust in the wind
all we are is dust in the wind

Same old song
just a drop of water
in the endless sea
all we do
crumbles to the ground
though we refuse to see
dust in the wind
all we are is dust in the wind

Now, don't hang on
nothing last forever
but the earth and sky
it slips away

And all your money
won't another minute buy

Dust in the wind
all we are is dust in the wind
dust in the wind
