I haven't been here a day yet, and I love this city. Bright sunshine, palm trees, and cool architecture. One local said it was the porn capital of the country! Maybe its my stodgy east coast sensibilities talking...but its so cool to be in California.

The city has a beautiful waterfront (view attached files in order)
...and a great skyline
...and a nice walkway along the water
...to the historic district
...or to look at the harbor

I think I'm ready to buy a Puka shell necklace, get some blond highlights, grab a surfboard and become a resident! :biggrin1:

Any other San Diegophiles here?

Glad you are having fun, thanks for sharing... *shakes blonde highlighted hair, rattles puka shell necklace and looks longingly at surfboard*

I totally agree with u Ex... One of my favorite places in the Country. Don't miss Coronado, La Jolla, or a nice Mexican dinner in Old Town... Have a margarita for me!

I haven't been since I was a kid, when I was just at the right age for Sea World to have made the biggest impact on me. Ah, fond memories....

I'm glad you're having fun there! :biggrin1:

How's the gelato?

buy the surfboard, buy the puka shell necklance (then throw it away :p), then drive north to laguna beach, newport beach, (and especially) huntington beach. and if you're really feeling adventurous to find beautiful beaches, go to santa barbara area to el capitan, refugio, jalama, and/or rincon. all way less commercialized than san diego and way more beautiful :D

I live just up the 5 from San Diego -- and love heading down there as often as possible. Don't forget to make it to Black's Beach in La Jolla if you can ... enjoy your time in California, E. I also recommend heading to Coronado and check out the hotel, and um, some of the scenery usually jogging on the beach around that area. :)

Have fun.

I second the recommendations for La Jolla and Coronado (as to the latter--not as much there, but time permitting, it's good stuff). Old Town is all right (touristy, IMO). I recommend Balboa Park for some scenic walking plus quality museum/zoo components. Party hardy in the Gaslamp!

I *heart* San Diego!

I'll have New Year's Day with family around the Legoland area, then back again before summer for a quick vacation. However, currently, I am just flipping in love with SoCal - 80º on December 29th? Yea boi! :)

Oh, want to add the Crystal Pier area is another lovely spot for "this is how I spent Christmas vacation" pics.

I've looked around at photos before - and it looks ace.
Car rental seems extremely cheap, too - compared with the UK at least. :)

I love these, they look like massive, hi-tech milk cartons. :p

I agree with the comments about Santa Barbara, but maybe I'm slightly biased since I went to college there and have fond memories of my time there. I still have close friends who live in SB and it's time for me to make a trip westward to visit.
