Palin panders to what is essentially the illogical, the blindly ideological and the stupid. Case in point, do a fact check on her views on American History. I don't care if you look me in the eyes... if you're wrong, you're WRONG. Period.

Opinions have no relevance if they're devoid of fact.

Who was the one that told us that we had 57 states.

My problem is not that the lady reads on an 8th grade level. My problem is that she has not surrounded herself with brilliant people who help her with minor things like getting facts right.

It is not the level at which one reads, it is the ability to read and comprehend all of the ramifications of information given and to know when to begin to mistrust information received in writing on a given situation and to even more to know when one is being mislead for the gain of some special interest.

The main thing is to read a stack of reports by various governmental agencies all with their own budgets at risk trying to look good by publishing baloney and stating that the reports do not give enough facts to reach an absolute judgement one way or the other and knowing when to ask for better proof of a situation.

This is where George W. who may have had reading skills which were higher failed. He did not read, he listened to people who were serving special interests and he acted on information he never bothered to research and verify from multiple sources.

Nobody needs a perfect score. Alas, there are some verbal gaffes and temporary bouts of logical amnesia that are easier to forgive people over. Case in point, someone briefly forgetting how many states there are in America is child's play compared to someone trying to state that Paul Revere conducted his Midnight ride to "warn the British" that the rebel army had guns... or our forefathers "worked tirelessly" to end slavery.

One requires a rehashing on simple math. The other two (from Palin & Bachmann) show a complete manipulation of factual events geared to politically propagandize or whitewash the actions & mistakes of our nation's past, and to make a certain part of our self-loathing electorate feel better about themselves at the expense of historical accuracy. Just like all opinions, not all mistakes or lies have the same severity. If we fail to distinguish the differences then we fail as human beings to look at every issue individually & rationally.

To some degrees, yes. Some more than others. But it shouldn't be terribly difficult to fact check anything a politician says. Occasionally even they tell the truth once in a while.

Yep. Who was it who said a broken clock is correct twice a day?

NCbear (who wonders whether VinylBoy's point, above, about the difference between "fact-checking" and "retellings of history that are completely wrong" was largely missed )

Between people missing the obvious, fueled by the recent rise of pestering banter from a couple of ideological numbskulls who have been hell bent on labeling me an "apologist" for over a year, I'm really starting to wonder just how many hints are missing from the clue jar these days. Then again not just anyone can boast and say that they've been completely shunned by the ideological extreme from both sides. Guess I should wear that badge with some pride. Regardless, thank you for getting what I was really trying to say.

Oh well... back to setting up my new studio in the new house.

Well consider this as well, his inaugural speech and his 2011 State of The Union Speech were listed as being at 8th grade level and his 2010 SOTU was equally low and yes, lower than George W.Bush. The 2010 SOTU said to be ranked 4th to the lowest since FDR's 1st SoTU and lower than approximately 70% of the SoTU speechs. Apparently Sarah Palin isn't that far removed from the White House standards of excellence after all.:biggrin1:

(and as far as I can remember she never needed a teleprompter to converse with 6th graders but President Obama did)

I don't think that President Obama is necessarily stupid, I think he keeps treating the voters, the American public as being stupid, he has no real respect for the citizens and it shows in how he talks down to the people. Say what you want about Palin, she doesn't talk down, she talks at eye level, looks you in the eye, Obama won't ever do that.

Source, please?
