Growing up in the 80s, there was no internet. To see men in underwear (and no LPSG bulges in ads then), I remember getting excited when the new Sears and JC Penny catalogues came out. There were also local ads in the Sunday paper. I was young and closeted, but that was my only way to see anything remotely sexy.

Does anyone remember? Those ads with pictures seem prudish now, but I remember loving Jim Palmer. Omg almost naked!

I couldn't wait for the Sear catalog to arrive when I was younger for the reasons you guys already mentioned. There was no other way to see semi naked guys unless you outed yourself (suicide when I was younger) by purchasing a Playgirl. I would wait until everyone was out of the house and jerk myself raw to those underwear pictures. Because it was all bikini briefs back then, you got to see some pretty impressive bulges and asses.

Sears shut down completely a year ago in Canada. It's now relegated to the scrap heap of other former behemoth department stores like Simpsons and Eaton's.

I always loved looking at department store ads, as well. I think I was too young to see the Jim Palmer ads besides having seen them online numerous times, but seeing the briefs and bikini briefs advertised for Sears and JCPenney fueled a lot of my early masturbation. I remember keeping a catalogue or two in my room when I was young.

Even now with the wealth of gay porn easily available on the Internet, it can still be very erotic to see those old-fashioned ads.

I remember those catalogues well. When I have discussions with my sons about any sort of technology that existed prior to their births, their reactions are always interesting. Often they will say, ".....but it is so much easier now."

Add me to the list of catalog lovers. We received catalogs from Sears and Montgomery Wards. When I had time to look through them without being observed by anyone in my family, I lingered on the underwear pages. I didn't think about why I liked looking at the men in their underwear, but I knew I liked it.

Jockey heavily promoted Jim Palmer in the mid '70s both in printed ads and on TV. I reacted by purchasing the briefs pictured above in every color that they offered. I liked the contrasting white trim.

Do you know the comedian Dan Mintz? He has a bit about how he used to have to go to the Sears catalog to masturbate. Kids now have it so much easier; they just go online... and then go directly to sears.com...
That's true. Imagine we had all those options in our past, gosh, may not think of it, lol!

It's a joke. Get it? They go on the internet and then, curiously, go to the sears website, not actual porn. That's why it's funny.
.
The whole clip is funny but this particular joke starts at1:46

I remember this one. It was probably the first such ad that really caught my attention and I spent a long time looking at (when no one else was around). I don't think I had started jerking off yet (I may not have been old enough), I just liked looking at it. When I was a bit older, the catalog pics I actually jacked off to were from the Undergear catalog, which I kept in the drawer of my nightstand.

I went into a convenience store once that had adult mags on the top shelf and they actually International Male catalogs on the shelf alongside Playgirl and other such magazines.
