A bit of long blablabla I think... Why should english should be the only language if there were already other languages... And also Colombus spoke spanish, so the """""""""first language""""""""" is spanish, not english. Just a long meaningless talk...
Sorry

The Consitution is being used to ban rights, not protect them...I don't have enough words to express who anti-American that is. You cannot protect the people from themselves, ever; it just doesn't work. I'm down for a revolution, but shhhhh....they might be listening...

but this videos is better...

He makes some good points but too easy to debunk many others.

It might more appropriately be called:

The Old Farts' Last Howl of Desperation

For those who cannot handle that society evolves, and life goes on

I actually got four minutes into it.
He has scattered moments where someone would agree with him. He goes on about how we're too focused on being labeled as "White Americans" or "Black Americans" or "Hispanic Americans" when we should all be willing to look at ourselves as just "Americans". That part was cool.

Unfortunately, the majority of it is just drivel.

SpoLLe, I'm ashamed of you. I would expect better of you than this. I couldn't get through this ridiculous rant with a "common sense" gun to my head.

He makes a mockery of the Founding Fathers and their beliefs. Tead the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

You Euro-centric cultural imperialist you!

The first language in the western hemisphere is likely related to Innuit or Aztek or Olmec. Whatever it is, it sure as hell ain't Spanish.

Oh and Columbus was Italian.

This is why I added ST to my friends' list nearly as soon as he arrived. I love his clarity.

It was not all drivel. He was way too hung up on a few irrelevent/easily debunkable points.

Well his merry (and nearly mutinous) men were Spanish, and then as now it was common for educated Europeans like Cristoforo Colombo to know several European languages, it's like what we would do if distinct sections of the Union spoke different languages with no common tongue.

Also, that reactionary old fogey needs to read about the American experiment, as in the notion that a free, democratic, and multicultural society could finally work.

Dear Pieter,

It is now well-established that Columbus didn't "discover" America, although he certainly was the first one to stick around.

For the record, even Obama and Clinton (during the primary season) insisted that English remain the primary language.

It was really a bunch of half truths and xenophobic bullshit.

This nation was NOT founded on one culture... IT was 13 entirely separate cultures... 13 colonies that saw themselves as distinct and unique sovereign states.
That diversity is why we had a civil war over the issue of State Sovereignty.

This nation is a nation of immigrants... thru most of our history, large sections of cities and large sections of states/territories have predominantly spoken other languages, worshiped in fringe sects, and founded utopian societies from the Shakers to the Amish.

There have always been parts of New York, Chicago, San Francisco where the signs on the stores were in Italian, Chinese, Polish, Russian, Greek.

The Founders never named english the official language because, IN THEIR DAY there were whole counties that spoke Dutch, whole communities that spoke German.

While I agree that The United States ought to preserve a unique sense of being the culture of maximal individual liberty under the rule of secular law...
The biggest threats to that identity are the home-grown extremist Christians who would evangelize the government, re-write American History, and turn back the study of science to the addle pated notions of the 13th century.

In point of fact, speakers of other languages have been settling here for centuries.

3 generations later they all speak english.

Making "english" the "official' language of the US would be like making christianity the official religion...
IT would have ZERO effect on the nation other than to endorse the unequal treatment of minorities.
IT is not like the Christians, nor the English speakers, are in danger of becoming over-run.

Like all such diatribes, this video is nothing more than fear mongering. It blames one party for the "dangers" of what is, in fact, social advance and progress.

And it predicates its arguments on myths and outright lies about this nation's founding, its past, and its people.

In the only other State that begins with "K"!
Welcome to America --- where after 232 years of calling ourselves the "United States", we're just STILL not sure of WHO we are, what "culture" and language and religion "ought" to be dominant and where some of us look "backwards" to our founding fathers only to decry that they would be so ashamed of what we've become (let alone where we ought to progress!) Since most of us "hate" history in general (not only our OWN, but world history as well), and we just generically know that "stuff" happened "way back then," we are free to listen to whatever voices decide to interpret our history in whatever manner they may choose.

Truth be known ---- we're still in our teenage years in the "family" of nations. Give us another 200+ years and we may just figure out what we want to be when we grow up!!
