I believe this may have been already been a thread, so forgive me since I couldn’t find it.

I’m seeing more and more guys do the towel dance these days in the locker room. Mostly younger dudes. Guys wrapping themselves in a towel to undressed. To get dressed. Some even taking a towel into the shower stalls to undress and dress. I find it not only more work than it’s worth, but also somewhat silly, since you can simply face the locker and undress / dress quickly if you’re really that shy.

Anyway, it made me think what these guys would do if an acquaintance, say a co-worker or a friend, happened to bump into them in the gym. Would it be awkward? Would it be uncomfortable? Should it be either?

What’s the thought here? Are we men confident enough to stand naked next to another buddy, not just a gym buddy, but someone with whom we are more familiar? Is being that exposed too much for us, or our egos? Would you cover up, or let it hang?

I had two incidents - first one was my boss - whom I did not like much at all - that was really awkward - it would have been awkward with our clothes on, but with clothes off- it was super weird. I never wanted to see him completely naked and now that image is burned into my eyes forever!! Second - I was coaching a college tennis team. There were 2 graduating seniors on the team. I did not know that one of them belonged to the same health club. He obviously was a guy who commuted to college and lived locally. I was sitting in the whirl pool one night after a practice and he came walking in to the whirl pool room and proceeded to get into the whirl pool - That was initially awkward for me - it was clear it was not for him and his ease allowed me to feel more comfortable with the situation. We sat in the whirlpool and talked tennis for about 20 minutes.

being 60+ yo , I grew up letting it hang. we were taught that we are more or less the same. in gym class, we HAD to shower afterwards, had to get soapy, and rinse off. no covering up with the school supplied towel, it wasn't that big. no using the locker or locker door for cover, small lockers. as much as this was a hard rule for the shy guys, the teachers did not tolerate any bullying or putting some one down, verbally or physically, no matter who you thought you were. so the shy, fem guys got no crap. were left alone, they had enough problems.
I was lucky...slender, athletic build, with a big dick. I didn't flaunt or brag. it is what it is.

My ego and the size of my penis are not related.

Penis size was never mentioned in a post prior to yours. Not sure how this relates to the issue of being comfortable nude around an acquaintance.

I’ve been naked with my insurance agent and veterinarian at my Y in the open shower. I let it hang, and so did they. We’re all guys at the end of the day. They’re both good looking guys. My insurance agent has a monster dick and a nice body. My veterinarian has a small dick, but an ass I could eat for days and a phenomenal body. I was naked with all of my buddies when I was younger. It was never weird for me.

Funny it was never weird when you were with your buddies. How does it feel with the insurance agent, and the vet, knowing you may have a bit of an attraction towards them? How was it the first time you bumped into them?

My insurance agent (former I should now clarify but active at the time) just happened to finish his workout at the same time as me. We were in the steam room chatting away, and then hit the showers together to continue our conversation. I always thought he was cute (in a nerdy way), but I wasn't really lusting after the guy. I was stunned though by the monster cock he has. The last time I saw him, he looked like absolute shit. He was getting divorced, and his ex-wife was putting him through hell. I felt sorry for him because he was a genuinely nice guy. The last I heard, he moved away to a different town, and started to work for a new insurance company. He moved in with his girlfriend because his wife left him penniless, and he had kids to support. I'm still connected with him on LinkedIn, but I haven't seen him in years.

Our veterinarian is a little more complicated because he's married to my wife's old college roommate, so it's a huge no go zone. He's the first husband of one of my wife's friends that I actually like (the others were assholes whose presence I only tolerated). I'm an ass man, so his booty was the first physical feature I noticed about him when we all hung out (we still do to this day). For about a year, we worked out together every week, so we would hit the showers after our workout where I got to see everything in the flesh rather than just through his clothes. He's sculpted like a Greek God, and I have complimented him on it in a non-sexual way. We stopped working out together when he decided suddenly to switch gyms. He has since returned, but I felt like I was constantly chasing him to get together which I got tired of. I have bumped into him at the gym several times since. We always stop and talk for a few minutes and exchange pleasantries. I have noticed now that he doesn't shower there at all anymore. He's a nice guy, but a little odd. He's insanely homophobic, and he's totally obsessed with his wife (and tells her EVERYTHING which is why I'm careful what I say around him - he has no bro code whatsoever). We all had dinner together about a month ago, and I was talking about the great success and results I'm seeing from the fitness classes I'm attending. Since we both use the same gym, he said that he would like to try it out this fall. I told him when the classes are, so it will be interesting to see if he shows up. I won't chase him to come to the class though.

As with my old buddies, that's just the way it was back then, so a majority of guys got naked after their workouts and used the large open shower to get clean. Gyms didn't cater to the hyper modest pussies the way they do today. You either got over yourself, or you smelled like shit all day which wasn't an option for me because I was in my 20s, horny as fuck 24/7, and wanted to score with women. I worked out at my university's athletic centre as did my buddies, so it was convenient to shower there. I'm always a sweaty mess after working out, so not taking a shower immediately is absolutely abhorrent to me.

.

Isn’t it odd how when we “know” a little bit about someone suddenly that awkwardness (for some, not all) of the nudity disappears? That other dude suddenly seems more vulnerable than we do. Being naked next to someone we know no longer matters . . .

I guess it keeps our priorities in order.

You will decide entirely if that situation is going to be awkward or not by your behaviour. If you just relax and shower, have a chat, the other guy will relax too if he wasn’t already.

I was in the shower at the Hollywood Y (which I wish I still used because it’s the rare gym in LA that still has open showers) and a guy came in to use the head next to mine (it was busy/lunchtime).

After a few mins I realized he kept checking me out, which is fine, I’m not shy lol. When I finally got soap off me and entered “relax under hot water” mode I finally really looked at him.

Shorter than me, older than me, but with a worked out bod. Seemed to be average sized cock. We made eye contact and I recognized him. He said my name as a question, I smiled and asked “how’s it going?”

He not only wound up reporting to me when we worked at a tech company... I laid him off.

Awkward.

Precisely what I was getting at. How many times do we see someone we know waklking down the street, or in a store, and for whatever reason chose to avoid or ignore them. Not so easy when we’re standing naked in a locker room, or coming out of the shower dripping wet.

“Whoa, hey buddy, haven’t seen you in a while! How’s it going? Hey, whoa, eyes up here man.”

I only engage in conversation with guys in the open shower that I want to, not every guy there. We have a guy like this that chats with EVERYONE whether they want to or not. He irritates the hell out of most guys, and I have even heard one guy blatantly tell him to "shut up" because he just won't stop talking. I don't want to be that guy, and also, there are guys that use the open shower when I'm in there that are creepy, pervy, insane and/or disgusting. I don't want to even acknowledge their presence.

You reminded me though of a couple of times where I have seen guys in public that I have been naked with many times in the open shower. One time was with a really hot wrestler from my university. My wife and I went into a sporting goods store, and he was a clerk there. He kept looking over at my wife and I. I'm sure he was thinking the same thing as me that hey, I've seen and been naked with that guy before. He and I never spoke when naked around each other, but we definitely noticed each other. Another time was in a grocery store as a customer, and the other guy was a customer too. He and I have briefly said hello to each other while naked together in the open shower at my Y. He's a total DILF - in his late 30s/early 40s and hot as fuck!

I wouldn’t generally have a problem bumping into an acquaintance in a gym shower or other place where we were both naked. The only exception I can think of is with someone that I dislike. A previous response mentions their boss. My boss is a real a-hole...he’s bad enough to deal with clothed at the office. I can’t imagine how awkward it would be to be naked together!
