EVERYTHING is made in China, so that comment is a bit unfair. My partner said something similar the other day, so I challenged him to find something in his house that wasn't made in China. The US does make more of it's own stuff than the UK I think, but try it.

I wasn't just talking about things being produced in general, which yes, in general China produces a whole lot of things. I think it would be accurate to say that a lot of products in many people's houses are made in China, and not at all stereotypical/racist/whatever. That being said, offhand, and maybe I live under a rock or haven't heard things, but I don't hear a lot about knock off Louis Vuitton coming out of the UK, for example *shrug*

Still, I bet they're excellent quality for a tenner . I just meant that it's unfair when people say that China just produces shoddy or knock-off goods when they make everything. Most people aren't really aware of how many items in their possession have come from China. Some people haven't got a clue where PRC is.

Oh, indeed, and that post was full of bullshit from start to finish, but the general "yeah, a lot of stuff is produced in China" I can't really argue on, dumb as it was to try and paint it in the light that they did.

When in NY, where all weapons (knives, pepper spray, blackjacks, stun guns, firearms) are illegal and women who don't have any fighting skills are truly defenseless, I carry a torch lighter. Most people already have something in their hair that will go up if you light it, and everyone else will do anything to stop the pain if you put their eyes in contact with flames.

^This. Even if you have no weapon or spray, when an attacker grabs you immediately stick your thumbs and fingers into their eyes with the intent to rip them out of their sockets. They will instantly let go of you, bring their hands up to their eyes and back off from your hands. This will immediately open up space between you and your attacker. Now you have the option to flee or to apply knee to groin if your attacker is still earnest--more than once if necessary. Then get away.

Remember the last time you were accidentally poked in the eye? Remember how it stopped your life and doubled you over? Remember how long it took to recover? Even a bit of dirt in your eye is extremely irritating. People instinctually stop everything to protect their eyes.

Years ago a dog which had me savagely by the coat sleeve instantly let go when I poked him in the eye with my free hand. The stomp I applied when he did broke ribs and caused him to withdraw yelping.

BTW it works on sharks, too, and there are some stories of success against bears, cougars and alligators.
