There is a stark difference between the way Obama and Carter banned entry and how Trump did.

Carter banned Iranian during the whole Iran hostage affair as part of sanctions against that nation which held American hostage for 444 days.

Obama banned Iraqis for 6 months due to a pair of Iraqi in Bowling Green were plotting to bring sniper rifles and Stinger missles into the US.

Both instances were regrettable but grounded in some sort of concrete threat and fully vetted by the State Department, DOJ, DOD, and other government agencies. This current Trump ban not only increases the ban to 6 countries but does so based vaguely on protecting us from terrorists and no actual data showing these countries are posing a current and credible threat to us. In fact the counties responsible for the most terrorist based violence in the US are completely ignored (Saudi Arabia and Egypt). This ban was also not vetted internally by anyone outside Trump's inner circle and hit the government agencies responsible enforcing it without warning or explanation on how to execute.

This article really explains just how poorly thought out and implemented this ban was.

ISIS isn't a credible threat? I am glad you don't run the country.

Without making a comment on his actions I don't think it's right to say Trump is not particularly clever or strong isn't accurate.. Trump took out 17 other candidates and then he watched Hillary spend close to a billion dollars.

It doesn't take a whole lot of "strength" to use hate and bigotry to win. Trumps appear in every era and every period to demonize the current Boogeyman the idiot public fears.

No Qatar? The fucking state sponsor of the Muslim Brotherhood?

No Saudi Arabia? The fucking state sponsor of ALL TERRORISM?

Iran is on the list? That's a little gift to Israel because they are SHIA-HATING EXTREMISTS who actually have a NEED for Al Qaeda, The Muslim Brotherhood (ACTUAL FUNDER OF HAMAS... HEZBOLLAH IS A RED HERRING AND ISN'T THEIR FUNDER), ISIS, Al Nusra etc to destabilize the Middle East.

There haven't been and there are currently NO IRANIANS in ISIS, AL Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Al Nusra or any other terrorist group. Hezbollah is a MILITANT group that fights on battlefields... not a terrorist group.

Fucking Somalia? We are worried about pirates now?

Goddamn meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

I've voted Republican in every election since I was old enough to vote...until this year. I couldn't in good conscious vote for this narcissist. Sadly he is proving to be even worse than I had thought he could be. And in just one week!

I agree with your observations and feelings about what is happening.

One question though, if I may, only because I'm curious about others who may say the same about their past support for Republicans.

Before Trump, did you not see the underlying themes, look at the ideology and that which they supported and opposed? Did warning bells not go off when they chose to demonize or scapegoat some "other" to promote their agenda? Did you not see the signs, the building animosity, the cumulative effect of the kind of rhetoric that ultimately led to the fruition of EXACTLY what they've been courting all ALONG?

After all, Trump is not some aberration of what they (conservatives) have BEEN saying. On the contrary. He is the EMBODIMENT of it.

Exactly. Trumpenstein has been baking in the GOP cauldron of bigotry and misogyny for decades now. No one should be fooled. It was never about issues. Hillary won all three debates and came with an extensive resume in public office. Trump came with nothing. And it didn't move the needle at all. Meanwhile back at the ranch 50+ million sat out and didn't vote. Now the new Dark Ages have arrived.

Today I felt a feeling I've never felt - ashamed. Ashamed to be an American. Today Trump took the one defining quality of America and ripped it to shreds.
The first time... really?
I thought G.W.Bush was a good training for what is to come.

Just kidding, sorry. I totally get you... what Trump did is so against what erica stands for in the world...
We accept people of all faiths and countries. You know...that whole melting pot thing. The Statue of Liberty. Ellis Island. Its what WE do. Sure the world may have issue with where we poke our nose in stuff and maybe start a war or two but nobody has ever faulted us for accepting refugees. That all ended today. America just took a black eye on the world stage that's going to take a while to recover from.
I think it already started to end under Obama, but Trump put it on a new level...

I remeber referring to the statue of liberty at a thread about refugees.
I've seen stories about people who have green cards - people who have FOLLOWED THE IMMIGRATION RULES AND BECOME US CITIZENS - getting turned out of our country at airports across the US. These are people who have the paperwork, who have been background checked, hell some of them have houses and car payments here in the US. These are not sleeper cell terrorists - these are humans who came to American because it was the land of promise.
the first thing Google did today, was to order back all abroad working Muslim employees back to the USA.
Making it even worse is the fact that all the "banned" countries represent countries where Trump has no business interests. Saudi Arabia - the country that gave us the 9/11 bombers - totally not on the list. Trump has a very substantial development deal there. Can't ban them.

I read that the ACLU successfully got the order blocked. Thank God. Maybe...just maybe we can start recovering the world wide face we lost today. But even if we can we'll never compensate all those who just got told to go away today.

There was a recent report published that said the odds of a refugee of being a terrorist agency is something like 1 to 3.6 billion. I'm more likely to be shot tomorrow by some depressed high school kid than any of these poor refugees shooting me.
Unlikely.... it would mean you need 3.6 billion refugees, to create 1 terrorist. But we already had refugees becoming terrorist, but "only" 60 million refugees world wide.

A more realistic numer would be 3.6 million...

But even then, it's unlikely to get killed by a terrorist. Everything else is more likely.

Why doesn't another Muslim country take them in? I thought Islam was the religion of peace?
Mmmhhh... you think Turkey should care for another 3 Million, or Libanon 3.5 Million?
If you didn't noticed, these coutries have a population of 5% to 25%, with a GDP per capita 4 or 8 times smaller as in the USA, but still they care for 100 times as many refugees than America...

But it's always more easy to point at others than to accept that your behaviour is wrong.

Haha, yes I meant million with a 'm'. I'm not C-3PO here!

Ok Donnie here is something you obviously put no thought into.

Some person from/in one of those 7 countries shows up wanting a visa and says they are a "Christian" and wants that "head of the line status" you alluded to and the country in question is like the US and does NOT listed religion on it's passports.

You do WHAT ?????

Is a Muslim and a Billionaire and real honest to god Billionaire LIQUID ASSETS in the billions and is from Iran and wants to come to NYC and talk to Eric and Don JR. about building a Trump branded tower.

You do WHAT ??????

Well, if Don is thinking the way you are, it won't be long before he is impeached. Sacked as not being worthy as President.

So when do you think Muslims first started settling in the US? You really need to brush up on your history red.
