Hey he posted a bunch of IG stories in Spanish, would someone be sweet enough to translate?
It was a long story so bear with me:
He says that today he is very sad because his dog (Audri, I believe he says) of 9 years got really sick, wouldn't eat, wouldn't move. They took her to the vet for analytics and she was better during the day, but later got worse again. She was in a lot of pain, and was just yelping and crying nonstop, so they took her to emergency vet. It cost 1,000 euros for a diagnostic and they found that she has a problem with the spongy discs between her vertabra in her spine so it's like the bones of her spine are rubbing together.
He is going today to see if she's better and if he can take her home.
But he continues to say that this is part of having a dog - not only a member of the family/your best friend - sometimes they break things or sometimes they have medical problems and this is something you have to face - because he is now having to face a 1,000€ bill for the vet, but thanks to God, he is able to pay it. He hopes that no one ever has to go through this.
He hopes that her problem much less than what they fearing, that they can give her the best quality of life as they can, but the first diagnostics show that it's probably not curable. Regardless, they will try to give her the best quality of life possible.
Then he shows a video of how she is basically paralyzed from the waist down.
He then continues and says that from his own experience with another dog (Foxy) when she was really sick, they took her to a place where they did tons of tests and charged a lot, they wanted to do an endoscopy and all kinds of tests, but he found that they weren't necessary because he got a second opinion and another vet quickly found that she had a type of very serious pneumonia without a ton of tests. They treated her, and she was fine. There was no need for an endoscopy at all, but he felt that the first vet was just trying to get money from him.
This was a bad experience, he doesn't want to talk badly about veterinarians, but he says that everyone should be careful and don't be afraid to get second opinions if your dog is sick.
He hopes that this year gets better with his dog because she's had a tough year and has been really sick, she was spayed, and has had a lot of problems in this sense. He hopes she gets better because she's a member of the family and she is practically the one he loves most in the world. It's very sad to see your dog so sick, when he saw her, he just wanted to die, he was so sad.
In the end he repeats that you shouldn't adopt a dog if you can't take care of it or pay for things like this. There are too many dogs that are abandoned.
Personal note: my dog had the same (or at least very similar) condition a few years ago, it's a nightmare. It's called Intravertebral disc disease or sometimes "disc degeneration disease". The discs in the spine deteriorate or calcify so the bones are rubbing together and it causes an ungodly amount of pain. I had to put my dog to sleep because of this. There is no cure... I hope to God that he doesn't have to do this for his little puppy, but if his dog has the same condition as mine did, it's genetic and there is no cure. Relieving the pain is the most humane thing you can do.
It's a condition that occurs in French bulldogs (like mine) and weiner dogs (like Sergio's).
I'm no vet, but his little dog looked exactly like mine did. Broke my heart to see it.
