Sharing a shower at the gym, if the rest are being used

I think it all depends on what kind of shower it is.

If it is shower heads on the walls around a room, or
a group of shower heads on a central post in an open shower room
then, I don't understand either why you can't share a shower if you need to.

If it is the individual stalls though, wouldn't it be pretty wierd going in there with another guy?

I don't understand why you would need to share in any case though.

Well there are plenty of times at festivals, and there is a huge line at the port-o-potty. Me and my partner will share.

How busy is it?

Busy as hell! I'm going between 5:30pm and 7pm and it is very, very busy. I'm seeing people from my building (workplace) there in the weight room, sauna and everywhere. Sometimes I'm meeting my sister, brothers there, or my cousins--with me, they workout free.

It's individual stalls you have to wait for and when one opens, we just take it. They big enough for two peope, so no big deal!

Should I say "stop in the name of love?" This is my shower! If my cousin follows me in, we sharing. If my man with me and I'm going to be late for my 2nd job, he sharing with me. No big deal!

I have only seen two other guys share showers here and they also were latino (maybe Mexican), but I do not think this is race discrimination because it's a good gym and I know the people working here. I think it is a cultural issue for them.

When you from a place where people have little, you learn to share. If you live where everyone has money and their own things, people don't share as much and they don't understand it. This is not a part of their culture.

Earlier, I was posting under the assumption that the showers were separated by doors or curtains. I now remember seeing the occasional locker room shower that basically had three-walled cubicles, but the fourth was open.

If that's the case, then nobody could be worried about what's going on in there, because there's not really any private space in which to hide.

I think they should just have a five minute rule. They could let two people share a shower then if they wished to do so as long as they are out in five minutes. Thats all they need to get cleaned up real quick and I don't think that would be enough time to do anything sexually. It wouldn't bother me if two guys shared a shower while I was showering near by as long as they aren't like fucking in the showers in front of people and they are just in there to clean themselves up. I think it's a little dumb to assume two people can't shower near each other without doing something sexual.

That's nasty! I'll share my last drop of water with a perfect stranger (because my mom's Salvadoran and that's how she raise me), but I'm not taking a shit with you! Hell no!

There are actually rumblings now at such gyms like Fitness First over here that they are seriously considering bringing back the 'gang' open air showers to the gym and doing away with the cubile format. They are saying that it is costing them too much building material and water waste time and money for them to keep building individual cubicles, but with the open air showers that have multiple faucetts coming from the roof it would be simpler, cheaper and more cost effective. In and out and everyone will have space for a shower before starting or heading off home after the gym.
Personally I think that this would be good not only for the gyms if they followed through with this but also for our body concious culture as a whole, as it would force the issue that casual nudity is not a sin or a crime to like and it DOES NOT mean anything sexual unless you want it to. I only find locker room scenarios sexy in porn, but in real life they are just so...ugh, that most guys just want to shower, shave, dress and get on with it.

All the showers I've used at gyms have been open. Most of them had central towers with multiple nozzles coming out of them. The gym showers for college upper classmen were individual heads coming out of the walls. It was like two long walls of guys showering. No big deal.

Maybe, part of the reason for privacy is we are all pushed and pulled in many directions. Life seems to be yanking us all around and we'd like a little space. Personally, give me the towers or wall units. Just get in, shower, talk to your buds while you are getting clean, dress, and leave.

Well, I've shared many a shower with men. Especially in Denmark and Sweden without any problems. Although I'm 'straight', I must admit I've got a raging erection on more than one occasion, and on only one actually let the guy feel me up! Personally, I would prefer to shower with a really attractive female, but I have no hang ups about it either way.

BINGO! You hit the nail on the head! The thing is, do you really want to have to explain your cultural and socio-economic background everytime you share a shower with a cousin or brother at the gym to save time?

some really good comments.....nice hot topic ...i guess it depends on the gym....and what is posted on the "Rules and Regulations" ....i have not personally seen any signs warning against two people sharing a shower..however it is an invasion of personal space to just jump right in there and shower with someone..even asking is intrusive....if there is a long line and this seems to be the norm then you should speak to an administrator at the gym--and they will ocassionally send in a monitor to regulate the shower times--and keep the line flowing......at least give them the courtesy of knowing there is a problem...after all you do pay a lot for membership......and yes there are the posers in the showers and the gawkers....they need to be called out for what they are and it will soon stop......
