Seriously though I really think the issue here is that Americans tend to think that male nudity in others can lead to homosexual encounters, wheras Europeans don't really care who sees what. What exactly is it that other people find offensive in someone else being naked, I don't get it. I can understand an individual not wanting to strip in front of someone else as they might be uncomfortable or even a little insecure, but I really don't understand why someone would have an issue with someone else being naked?!?

When I had to go on my first book tour, my agent was with me, we shared a room. I got naked to go to bed, and he said "You sleep naked too" He took off his shorts and got under the sheets of his bed. No big deal, two men sharing a room..

I am AMERICAN and naked with guys every day at the gym. I have never been uncomfortable and no one else looks that way either.

Here's a novel idea - don't get stuck in the world of internet fantasy and what MIGHT happen. Just ask the guy in question. When time for bed, "Hey, I usually sleep naked at home. Is it cool to do that hear or would you rather I put something on? I'd like to be comfortable but at the same time don't want you to be UNcomfortable." Then, have a pair of shorts of some kind ready to go if he responds in kind.

I agree and, when in the hotel room situtation with a coworker, have said almost the same thing. You can tell immediatley if a dude is uncomfortable with you sleeping nude. That's when you laugh it off and say "just kidding bro" and sleep in your underwear. No wierd stuff; no hard feelings.

I recently had to share a room with a coworker I didn't know. At night, after I took my shower I came out the bathroom completely naked just to get my brush. He only saw me for a second. Then I came out wearing a towel and just hung out wearing that while he went in to take his shower. When I saw him come out completely naked, I knew he was comfortable with it and lost the towel. So nudity wasn't an issue.

And by the way, I didn't come out naked as a way to hit on him or anything. I'm just used to being naked around guys in locker rooms and stuff so I didn't think of it as an issue. And I guess he didn't either.

My HR folks have told us there is nothing appropriate about room sharing these days -- too much liability opportunity -- harassment, professional conduct/behavior, etc. I wouldn't do it at all!

I think wearing a towel can substitute for boxers or briefs. A towel probably covers more leg area anyway.

Wait and see what your roomie does. If he's ok with his body, you should be ok with yours. If he's uptight, dress accordingly
