This has really become an issue about children in the locker room rather than getting looks because your bald cock.

Soapbox Weigh-In: Sheltering your kids from things is a disservice to them and their future. Let them look as long it's not hurting them. They should be able to be curious and make up their own minds about things. Not doing so makes them ill-prepared to deal with life and to accept people's differences.

Topic Weigh-In: So weird that anyone would give strange looks because someone is shaved. I'm shaved and proud of it. I get locker room looks but I don't think it's because I shave.

Because they have swims for the local boys swim team and boys camps at my university, it's not uncommon to find those boys in the shower room after they are done in the pool. I have no issues with boys being in there, but I do with girls. To me, the price of admission is a penis and testicles. I have had countless boys gawk at me while I'm showering because I have body hair as do most post puberty men. Only one boy has ever been rude about me showering openly, so I humiliated in front of his peers to teach him a lesson. He was most likely the product of a single mother and an absentee father.

My point is that all boys are curious about how their body is going to develop as they get older. I know I sure was before I reached puberty. I remember leafing through family health books my parents had before I reached puberty, so I could look at a drawing (not picture) of a mature developed penis in detail. This was before the days of the Internet and before porn became so prolific in society. From the conversations I have heard from the boys in the locker room, they are curious too. Sheltering them from seeing what a fully developed man looks like is just going to fuck them up later because they will be your next generation of uptight and paranoid towel dancers. Prohibiting them from being in the shower room gives them the false impression that something salacious is happening. Expecting grown men to run and cover up because a young boy has entered the shower room is absurd and gives the impression to young boys that their body is something to be ashamed of. It's just as absurd and unhygenic to suggest that men should skip having a shower if there are young boys in the shower room. When I use the shower at my gym it is for a lot longer than 2 minutes. I enjoy taking my time and using the shower to cool off between sauna use, and then finishing up with a long relaxing hot shower. I have earned the right to relax after a hard workout, so there is no way I'm going to let some paranoid, uptight single mommy raised towel dancer tell me I should shower faster because of their own insecurities.

Sorry to go off topic from the OP here guys, but I had to throw in my two cents.

WOW this post has taken many twist and turns from the original posting…

  • As a former (the only ex-marines are buried) Recon Marine NCO you are giving marines a BAD name, lighten up be flexible and loosen up. Your time in the shower is yours once you get out of the military and there is definitely something to be said sometimes to a long hot shower!
  • Regarding the whole shaving thing, shaving really has little to do with sexuality although it may affect the sensitivity of the area it doesn’t make you a particular sexual preference. In 2010 we should really be above type casting or stereo types. I shaved for swimming; I shaved in RECON primarily due to wearing UDT shorts or diving. Trust me nothing hurts worst than a hair getting pulled by the wet suit. I also have shaved for triathlons as do many; I dare say not everyone competing is one sexual preference or the other. You really need to get past this misconception.
  • As for the kids gawking; well I have to say GOLD’s gym doesn’t allow kids under a certain age in the gym nor locker-room. With this said any kid checking you out is only natural especially if they have never seen anyone who is shaven compared to their father.
  • As for the whole Naturist issue; I have been one since getting out in Hawaii (KMCAS) after Beirut. I have never witnessed any sexual exploits between adults or children at true naturist events. In the US we ironically are country founded by those feeling Europe and seeking religious freedoms. Unfortunately somewhere along the way we became to prudish or even conservative in our beliefs. In Europe such as the South of France nudity is acceptable (although sometimes only partial) and if you ever notice the European men or children aren’t gawking cause they are used to it and see no BIG deal nor do they associate nudity with sex.
  • You should really get your facts straight overwhelming statistical shows that pedophiles are mostly and almost exclusively heterosexual in preference. Where there are examples of homosexuals abusing kids it isn’t as great as you may believe, again another false stereotype.

Enjoy the gym and your smooth clean-shaven body and if your are truly bothered by someone checking you out maybe you should avoid the gym or public showers altogether.

As for me I will remain clean-shaven, continue to use the gym and use the sauna and steam rooms in the nude and take showers. If anyone wants to look I am ok with that and in some ways feel flattered by it. And at 6’1” 215lbs I assure you I am very masculine and enjoy women…

OMG you guys are way too worried about me lol.

1. I don't care if you are a naturalist, nudist or or some other kind of "ist" my point it that type of activity should be practiced at home or among other like-minded people i.e. a nudist community.

2. A public lockeroom, especially one where children may be present, (health clubs, the Y schools, public pools etc) is not a place to practice your "naturalism" its a place to change, shower etc. Sure there is nudity, thats normal in a locker room but that is not the same as an invitation for you to prance around without a towel on or feel the need to engage me in conversation as water drips from your dick onto my gym bag.

3. As for guys who man scape, I have no issues with that, it seems to be the norm, not sure why that would draw attention.

4. I'll say it again children should be left out of the whole equation. The idea of adults and children mixing together nude should make any normal person squemish. Adults tend to sexualize things where children do not. So whether its about being a "naturalist" or shaving your pubes you can bet at some level, whether you admit it or not, a sexual aspect exists in your Psyche about that activity.

5. As for being a naturalist, I don't see much that is natural about it, I mean humans are poorly equiped (except maybe in the tropics) to survive in nature without clothing and really lets face it most people look better with clothes on, lol Thats not a judgement just an observation.

I sometimes wonder why I am even in this forum, but it is a great "time killer" and some of you are actually reasoned, funny and thoughtful!

That's absurd. So being bathed naked when a young child with my father/mother who also happened to be naked should have made any "normal" person squeemish? Good lord...I'm no nudist, but that sounds ridiculous

It's quite normal over here for kids and adults to change in the same area. Often kids are with their parents and stuff.
We're quite prudish about nakedness in general I guess, but in the context of changing rooms, doesn't seem to be a prob.

And i dunno about the shaved thing? Each to their own - more popular here than it used to be. :)

Here's my "reasoned" and "thoughtful" observation: You seem to have a particular fixation on this subject, though you frequently complain that it's stupid. It's interesting that roughly half of your posts, and presumably much of your reading, is in threads dealing with topics of natural nudity, and particularly nudity a gym setting. Posts like this one, for example:
OMG you guys are still carrying on about this after 140 pages!

WTF, I mean really, I go to the gym almost daily. I shower there but for the life of me I can not remember if anyone did the "towel" dance or covered up, or did not shower. Do you know why I cant remember? BECAUSE I DONT CARE!

How so many of you guys can go on attempting to rationalize why someone does or does not shower, or how much they wear their towel is amazing to me, although it is entertaining as hell when I'm bored and reading these posts...

Seriously though, give it a rest. . . .
Add in a few posts about pube trimming, the stupidity of speedo swimwear, and the threat of gays in the military, and that pretty much covers your post history.

Me wonders if the gentleman doth protest too much.

Whether you are shaved or not is for you to decide, and not really anyone else's concern. I've noticed the trend seems to have stabilised here in the UK, and increased slightly abroad. Some couples I've seen in spas are both shaved.

well I go to the gym all the time- I often don't shower at the gym because There tends to be a bunch of men much to old for me walking around the locker room nakid. I shave and trim and most of my friends do as well. One thing I can't figure out is why guys when they hit maybe 50 think it's ok to walk around the locker room buck nakid. My own thought is you should wear a towel to the shower and back to your locker get dressed and leave... the older guys walk around and talk to each other nakid and sorry but that that's weird to me.. it's a locker room not a nakid hangout to have a conversation. the most me or my friends have ever said to each other in the locker room is HI or c'mon let's bounce out of here.. It's kind of like the bathroom rule No guys ever talk in the restroom you never talk at a urinal ever in fact you don't even make eye contact in the rest room. Now out on the gym floor you can talk but don't sit on a machine and yap on your cell that's crazy lol.

Totally off-topic: while the Puritans were indeed prosecuted in England and traveled to North America to escape it, they were NOT interested in freedom of religion. They wanted to practice their religion at the exclusion of all others. They were just as oppressive of other faiths as their oppressors were. Americans were prudish and conservative from the start.

Hmmm,,,,well maybe I just have too much time on my hands.

But Those are all topics that I comment on that someone else wrote about. I guess there is a common thread and I get your point from "Shakespeare's Hamlet" maybe I am a closet nudist or a closet Gay although I do list that at 1% (like to keep my options open lol).

But if I were either, I am still pretty sure that I would practice either one in the privacy of my home or with like minded people. Im far from prudish or bashful about my body, the USMC saw to that, and before that I wrestled in high school and locker room nudity was normal.

But both in the USMC and in wrestling there was a reason for it just as there is at any gym or spa. I address my comments to those, and I think we all know who I am talking about that want to make a locker room setting their own little nudist colony.

As I pointed out in an earlier post, I don't care who showers and who doesn't and is it really any ones business that someone does a "towel dance"? But I have taken note of some guys, you can't miss them, that make a day or at least 90 minutes or so of hanging out naked in a locker room. On a number of occasions I have arrived at the gym and there is one or two of these guys hanging out in all their glory talking to anyone who will give them the time as I change and then go lift for maybe an hour. When I return to shower they are still there, or they are using the blow dryer to dry their nether regions (why?) then they slowly place lotion all over themselves as they bend over again and again at every compass point....I'll pass them quickly for fear that they might want to talk to me as they do this, go take a steam, shower and emerge only to find them still nude chatting with some other unfortunate soul or trying to to apply more lotion.

Now I know that I am not alone in these observations. There was a famous Craigslist Rave that went over this, and the local talk radio show here as a weekly segment called the "Hour of rage" where callers vent about things. A number of those rage calls were about this very topic, apparently there is real locker room rage occurring among the average populace...

Even Saturday Night Live had a skit that it ran with these two old dudes hanging out naked in a locker room to the disgust and fear of other gym members who had to view them.

It may be that some people, just like in other everyday activities, have to be reminded to not intrude on another persons space or to be courteous. So its my goal to remind some of you to be courteous, use a towel.

Some of you need to use two towels, but I digress...

(edit)...One thing I can't figure out is why guys when they hit maybe 50 think it's ok to walk around the locker room buck nakid. My own thought is you should wear a towel to the shower and back to your locker get dressed and leave...
Maybe some old men are undressed more than strictly necessary, but it's not offensive to engage in related activities (grooming, chatting, etc) that would naturally occur in a locker room. Your suggestion to "wear a towel" is an impractical solution to an unnecessary problem: if I wrap a towel around my sweaty body before showering, then the towel won't be clean when I'm done showering. (or dry...yuck!)

Bear in mind, the locker room is the appropriate place to go for undressing, showering, and related grooming. Inevitably you're going to be exposing a lot of parts that are ordinarily covered, but it's just a side effect of the activity and not a deliberate goal. Sure, you may see shaved crotches but they weren't shaved for showing-off in the locker room. You'll also see some ugly appendix scars.

Things are exposed in the locker room for the purely-neutral reason that removing your clothes will expose what's underneath. Try to get used to it, get over it, and don't fear it as naughty.

Lets remember that those ole disgusting bodies on ole men who hang in lockers rooms to chat and pass away the time will someday be yourself.

I will agree with one comment made. Shaving the crotch in the shower/locker room might be a bit to much. Also curteous should always be practiced as not to bend over putting your ass in someone's face.

Here's one if it might help to calm down the dispute. While getting dressed in the locker room a boy dropped some things next to me. When I picked them up and gave them to him he pointed to my scars from my kidney surgeries and asked if it hurt. He didn't notice my shaved pubes and ran away playing with his brother, both naked.

If you can't handle nudity in locker rooms shower at home.

Walked into the gym lockerroom the other day and one of the personal trainers was shaving his crotch in one of the sinks. No one said anything to him. No one really cared as long as he cleaned the mess up (which he did). It was talked about in the sauna (coed). The girls present thought a shaved crotch to be ugly on a man. "It looks like a plucked chicken". They did like for a man to trim some. All preferred their men to have unshaven chests. None like the manicured eyebrows seen on guys today. "Looks like a drag queen out of drag". What will guys be doing next that is considered female territory? Shaving their eyebrows and painting them on?

Okay let me say this and then I am going to leave it. Why do you people care if someone else sees you naked? In my life I have had probably 250-300+ other men see me naked and I have seen them naked. We all have a cock.. get over it. As far as children in gym locker rooms... that is a parents/facility rules thing. If you are not comfortable letting your kid take a shower in public then that is your choice. If you are not comfortable being around a teenager/kid naked then either wait to get home to shower or cover yourself up. As far as shaving your pubic hair, I have done at probably will do it for a long time, WHO CARES. If a guy or even a women decides to shave then that is up to them.

Who cares who shaves what in the locker room. I've seen guys shave their face/privates, I never had to urge to look/start a conversation with them. If they choose to talk with friends while doing so, let it be. I don't care who sees what in a locker room or what I see; I don't bother to pay anymore attention than necessary. I've seen the guy with the occasion wood also, not like he made it happen; it just did. No bid deal. Do your own stuff and carry on.

hey guys, just wondering if any of you have had the same experience as me... i was in the locker room at the local pool this morning in the shower and i kept getting strange looks from guys in there, mainly the ones with kids with them. and i think it may have been coz i shaved my cock and balls the other day.
just wondering if any of you had something similar happen?

As to the original question... I guess strange looks is the price you have to pay for a smooth shave in some places. However, I know lots of guys who have families and who trim or shave, and I've seen them im the locker room with their children too. I asked a guy about this once and he said his children had never come up with "awkward" comments or questions (he shaves his pubes too).
